Better than I expected
This first part of the TV series runs like standard RPG fare. These 13 episodes span several adventures as the entourage solves problems in various kingdoms. You'll be amazed at the moral lessons the show offers, despite the frequency of jokes.(the fantasy feel and tangled love interests are reminiscent of El-Hazard) Maze, a lovely woman by day and a lecherous man by night, caught my attention since the idea of male-female dual personalities inhabiting the same body makes for some interesting situations(i.e. I also liked Birdy the Mighty). I love the female Maze--she's a gentle selfless person who's at odds with her violent selfish counterpart. She is also being hit on by just about everybody, which makes you both pity her and admire at how she maintains her dignity. I like her voice-actress, who played Leaf in the Lodoss War TV series. Male Maze is also performed well--despite being vulgar, he still maintains respect for everybody. Maybe because it's the TV series, not the OVA which goes all out with nudity and sex. Princess Mill, Maze's ward, is both cute and annoying--she has this certain trademark style which makes her memorable ("ukyo?"). The opening and ending theme songs have stupid lyrics, but are good music. The bio-armor robots and the battle sequences, though not engaging, have a unique design. All-in-all, Maze is enjoyable, but whether or not you can switch genders, I recommend being male when viewing this show.
