3 stars the dvd version part 1 episodes 1-5
the material is great (the animation) but their are no subtitles.
the voice acting is poor. unlike that of the first two series, which was excellent. I had to turn up the volume on my t.v. almost all the way to hear the dialogue, narration, voice acting. It was fairly mute. The Theme song was in Japanese instead of English. What happened to the classic Star Blazers theme song? the story plot is completely un-original. The sun is destroyed so they have to search for a "NEW EARTH". If it was'nt for the fact that the material was great, this should deserve a zero. The voice acting is so horrible that i'll probably have to get the Japanese version from Bandai of Japan.
Voyager Entertainment should have given the star Blazers/Yamato T.V. and film series the royal treatment it deserves.

5 stars A lost and misunderstood jewel
the third series of this show is just as good if not better than the first two. At first the voice change got in my way of enjoying it, but I continued watching it, and also noticed the slight lack of care as far as the animation was concerned. But Once that wonderful ship got off of Earth and that familiar Wave Motion engine sound started going, I was in the show. The story is very good, Desslock as usual IS THE MAN. For those of you watching this, do not let the over acting get to you, later on they work and the story is one faithful to Star Blazer/Yamato storyline. Enjoy

4 stars I just like this series the best out of the three...
Well, yes, it does has different people doing the voice-over acting than the first two series, and it's storyline is in some ways a retread of the first season, "Quest for Iscandar". It even uses the same opening and closing title sequences from the second series, "The Comet Empire". Because of these things, and other reasons, the third season of STAR BLAZERS, "The Bolar Wars", has become the Rodney Dangerfield of the whole saga... it don't get no respect. But, in my humble opinion, THE BOLAR WARS episodes of STAR BLAZERS are the best out of the entire show. Why do I feel this way? Well, read on and I'll clue you in...

-There was very little editing or scene-cutting done to the American release of this series compared to the first two, making it more faithful to the creators' original vision. Almost all of the scenes of death and violence were left in. I don't necessarily enjoy viewing such things, but the series deals with war, and death and violence is to be, and SHOULD be expected...

-I feel that the voice acting, with a scant few exceptions, is superior to the efforts of the first two series. The characters sounded more realistic to me.

-I believe THE BOLAR WARS might have gotten more respect if it had a wider release on TV. Unlike it's first two predecessors, it had a much smaller audience of viewers. Because of this, THE BOLAR WARS are referred to as "The Lost Episodes". Not quite like The Lost Episodes of THE HONEYMOONERS, but definitely worth viewing.

5 stars Great Enterteinment
Well, it's a japanese cartoon, right? The story is great, right? We know the charecters from other stories, right? The animation is really cool, right? SO!!!! Why would we care about the voice changes? It's a great story and we 28+ people should buy it not only to show our children how good was the cartoons we used to watch when we're younger but because we still like to watch it !!!! Go get it !!! 2 stars A Disappointing conclusion
Although the animation and storyline faithfully follow along the same timeline. This production was made without any of the original voices from the previous two series so I felt like these were strangers. Like many people, I have fond memories as a child watching this cartoon series but as I watched the Bolar Wars series, I couldn't get into it because I didn't believe I was watching the adventures of Wildstar, Venture, Sandor, Nova and the rest of the crew.
