The user interface is designed for ease of use and quick control of scanning functions. |
Turn off that distracting "check engine" light. | The scanner allows you to easily retrieve, read, and erase OBD II trouble codes, as well as display and read live vehicle data for a faster diagnosis. With optional cables, you can also retrieve OBD I codes and live data for 1984-95 Ford and GM models, and 1989-95 Chrysler models. This sophisticated, yet extremely user-friendly tool includes the CP9145 base unit and can be used on OBD II compliant cars and light trucks sold in the U.S. from 1996 to present. Plus, the tool is fully upgradeable, accommodating future vehicles. The CP9145 is built tough for both shop and road test use. It also features a large, easy-to-read liquid crystal display that shows the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and their definitions. And although you still have to fix the problem, the scanner will deactivate the "check engine" light on your dash so you'll no longer be distracted while you drive. The scanner is easy to connect to your vehicle, and a user friendly menu provides a variety of information in a snap, including live engine data parameters (PIDs). Built-in help screens help you interpret the data, and you can view freeze frame data, which provides a "snapshot" of the vehicle's operating conditions at the time of the fault. Meanwhile, an internal 9-volt battery stores the latest test results for later review. Use the Monitor Status and I/M readiness (Inspection/Maintenance) function to determine if your vehicle is ready for an emissions test. I/M Readiness is an excellent function to use prior to having a vehicle inspected for compliance with a state emissions program, so you'll have a good idea if your vehicle will pass the standards. Another important thing to remember is that all emission testing facilities will fail a vehicle that has the "check engine" light illuminated at the time of the test--even if it is only lit to remind you of a past-due oil change or 60,000-mile tune-up. With this scanner, you can shut off the check engine light and pass the emissions test on your terms. The menu also alerts you of any pending DTCs and reads the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) status. By reading the MIL status the scanner gives insight into what might cause your "check engine" light to turn on in the near future. In this way, the scanner also provides some preventive measures to help you keep a close eye on your vehicle's systems. The scanner comes with CD software that contains 5,000 Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and their descriptions. What's in the Box Super AutoScanner CP9145, OBD II cable, 8-foot extension cable, manual/CD-ROM with over 5,000 code definitions, and soft carrying case. Manufacturer Warranty One-year limited warranty.

Customer Reviews
This thing works, period!!!!
I am not a handy person and do not like to read through the manual. I even called the help line after I received the product and read the manual a couple of times (even though I do not like it). I never repair my car myself and do not plan to do it. However, I would like to know what is wrong with my car when the check engine light is on before I take it to the dealership. I just want to be safe by not ignoring serious problems.
This thing works perfectly. The most difficult part of using this tool is to bend down and hook it up (no need to use any other tools). The rest will take about 2 minutes. So far (since Friday), I have canceled 3 lights (98 nissan, 02 VW Golf - twice, 01 Toyota Corrola with a rebuilt 02 engine). None of those car have serious problems.

Cheesey Case
The CP9145 is an excellent tool. It has all the features us home mechanics need. The only bad thing is the case they give you offers no protection at all for the unit also there is barely enough room to store the cables. They don't even give an AC or DC Adapter which I think is just plain cheap.

Actron scanner
This unit has been a god send for diagnosing my multiple vehicles. It has been a valuable tool in saving me money on repairs as I do not need to go to a garage to have simple diagnostics done. The only complaint so far is getting help from the manufacturer as the supplied cd does not work with Apple computers and I cannot get a reply from Actron themselves. Beside that it was a very good investment.

I like it a lot
I've done quite a bit of work from complete engine rebuilds, transmissions, rear axle assemblies, and the dreaded tinkering with the electronics. These parts are usually safely out of sight until something won't work and you happily can not find the sensor or the coupler its supposed to be linked to. Tilting an engine to locate and O2 sensor is not a great way to spend a day. There is no way around this stuff as its here and when something does not work it is just plain time consuming. I use this thing and I did buy the OBDI cable for it too. I have the opportunity to be challenged by some older GM stuff. To the point. I've used this thing, I've dropped this thing, and I've gotten some good answers from this thing.I like this unit and am glad I bought it. If you intend to use more than once in a great while for some mystery that lights up your indicator by all means buy one. For those that tinker under the hood you already know changing one thing causes a change in lots more and this unit will help you track down the ripple effect of problems.

Does the Job
It is easy to use, up and running in less than two minutes. Will not fix your car for you but will give you a code and you would go online to do research on the code to fix it yourself. You may have to go to the dealer to get the car fixed but at least when you walk in that door, you have the correct knowledge of it.
Just have the correct expectation for this product... you're not buying a mechanic.
