Customer Reviews
Good product, awful instructions
It took me about an hour to figure out how this product works, thanks to awful instructions. At first, I had all the problems other people have described: it was not working at all, at most I would get about a few inches of oil in one of the tubes. Did all the steps prescribed, still no luck.
Then I started to fiddle with a silver latch on the top of the device. The manual calls it an "expansion kit" in the product diagram, but does not otherwise reference it, what it is for, etc. I found that as I flipped that latch, oil came gushing through the hoses and into the evacuator. At last, what a relief!
As a result, I am quite happy with the product.

Great
This product works well. The instructions and the manual are poor but the product is easy to use. Other reviews have described how to make it work. My tiny car (4 quarts of oil in engine) required more than 8 pumps and took longer than 5 minutes.
I suggest you buy this product given these conditions 1). You can change your oil filter without climbing under the car. 2). You live in a place (a nice apartment complex) where you cannot work on your car up without getting the evil eye OR 3). You drain oil from a number of cars and don't care to jack up 6 cars every few months.
If you only have one or two cars and you have a place to change your oil I wouldn't buy it. However, now that I have it I'm keeping it. But if I had the chance to try it before I used it I would have just stuck to the old fashioned way of spilling oil on the garage floor, my hands, my shirt, and my head.

Must Be Bad Out Of The Box
I bought this thing to use on my Mercedes a few months ago. Last week I was going to test it for the first time but of course didn't which was a mistake. Tried to use it and I can't get the pump handle to go all the way down. The leaflet says to pump 10 times but with all 200 lbs of my weight on the handle I can't as there is a tremendous pressure felt. The best I could get was maybe oil in the tube 10 inches above the oil pan. I even bypassed the extract valve with tubing and could feel suction on tube going into the reservoir from the pump but nothing or very slight suction on the tube going into the oil pan. Called technical support and about all they could tell me was how it was suppose to work and I would have to return it to the vendor. I'm glad I didn't pay full price.

Success
I'd have to say that this product is a hit. Before I went to my BMW for the first oil change, I performed a test on several gallons of water out of my ice chest. The extractor did everything it was supposed to do during the test. I immediately went to the car and pumped all the oil out in minutes. I only got my hands slightly dirty while changing the oil filter. What's even better is that after I filled the engine with the new oil I was able to pour the old oil into the same containers. This makes it very easy to travel for proper disposal. I can't wait until the next oil change. If you use this product, make sure you run the engine for a few minutes before starting so the oil will flow easier (in other words, read the directions).

Easy to do an oil change, tough to clean out
I purchased the Mityvac 7201, last month, to do my own oil changes (believe it or not, my local dealer wanted $299 for what was basically a oil and filter change). My car has an 8 qt. capacity so I needed a good sized evacuator. The 7201 fit that bill. I extracted every bit of the 7.9 qts. that the computer on my car claimed was in the pan. I did the entire extraction without spilling one drop on my carpeted garage floor or my hands. It was easy, fairly quick, easy, clean and easy. Did I mention easy?
The next day, I drove to the local Pep Boys to recycle the oil. The techs there were amazed at the device. I would have thought they had seen one before. I simply removed the plug from the top of the evacuator and tipped it up to drain. The problem is this: it takes days for the oil to settle down the sides of the plastic resevour so, getting the unit clean is not going to happen without making the mess you hoped to avoid in the first place. Oh well, I now plan on only using this for pumping oil out of the engine now. I does has the capacity to pump fluid into something but I would have oil mixed in anything I did now.
Great product though. Saved me a bunch of money with just one oil/filter service. Long term savings will be huge.
