Customer Reviews
This product has formaldehyde in it
I had used up an entire jar of this and was very happy with the results. Lately, I've been paying attention to the ingredients list, and I'm surprised to not only see methylparaben and propylparaben (2 types of parabens) but also diazolidinyl urea! These are the last 3 ingredients on the list, so there's a trace amount of them, but I have always thought that Philosophy prides itself in selling paraben-free products (I haven't quite made up my mind about the paraben issue. Lotions & creams & liquids can get contaminated easily without an antimicrobial/antibacterial ingredient, so I guess as long as it's not butyl paraben/the worst paraben, I'm okay for now. But diazolidinyl urea?!?!?! You can look up that chemical on Wikipedia. It's a formaldehyde releaser=it slowly releases formaldehyde. Um, okay, I don't want formaldehyde anywhere near my face...I'm never using this product again...

excellent product
I am confused after reading some of the reviews...I have an extremely sensitive nose. In fact, I only buy certain mascara's because I don't like the way most of them smell. I have bought this product only from Sephora and have never had a problem with the way it smells.
My husband even noticed a difference in the way my skin looked after using this product a few weeks and he has never said anything about a smell either (and definitely would have if there had been one :)
I also have never had a problem with a rash and also have sensitive skin. I get the HIAJ for dry, sensitive skin.
I highly recommend the product. If you get one that smells bad...take it back!! It should not have a smell.

love it
I love this product. I use it daily and it feels soft, smooth, and perfect. I don't know why people think it smells bad. I will say that sometimes the Philosophy products can get rancid like oil does- I think the plastic jars and bottles make that happen sooner. If you buy it at Sephora, they will exchange it without question. The moisturizer is wonderful, though and when it is right, it does smell good.

Not worth the smell, or having others think you smell.
I used up my whole jar despite the terrible smell. It smelled like strong chemicals and made me feel nauseous and want to vomit. However, since I spent so much on the jar, I dealt with the 15-30 minutes of horrbile smell each time I put it on to try to desensitize myself and see if it's for me. I don't know why I did that, and if I had to do it again, I would have just thrown it out instead.
Pros:
1. Moisturizing, nice on my skin
Con:
1. No marked difference from other moisturizers I've tried (Olay, Clinique)
2. The jar isn't airtight so it would evaporate and near the sides/top of the jar it was hard. My room is dry though. I put the jar in a zip lock bag and it was fine after that.
3. The SMELL. Even though I eventually got over it, other people commented that my face smelled, if I just put on HIAJ before going out. My boyfriend couldn't kiss me for first half hour after I put it on since it reeked and he felt nauseous. It's so not worth it and I will never go through it again.
For those who say HIAJ is natural and has little chemicals, here are the ingredients:
Water, Lauryl Lactate, Behenic Acid, Behenoxy Dimethicone, Glyceryl Stearate Se, Glycerin, Behenyl Alcohol, Cyclomethicone, Pentaerythrityl Tetracaprylate/Tetracaprate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Benzyl Alcohol, Retinyl Palmitate, Stearic Acid, Panthenol, Betaglucan, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Xanthan Gum, Triethanolamine, Propylene Glycol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Diazolidinyl Urea.

First time I noticed a difference
I am always open to trying something new if I hear good things about it. I saw it on Sephora and it got "Best of Sephora" so I wanted to see what was so great about it. This product was definitely something different for me: it was in a jar, I had to scoop it out, the texture was a little different, the scent was a little weird. But, I fell in love overnight. I have only been using it for 6 months, but cannot live without it. I use it twice a day: in the morning before make-up, and then at night without makeup. It clears up your skin and prevents break-outs. If you have any redness, it will help get take the red out. It really does make your skin brighter. I do not know if it does anything for anti-aging, maybe over time it does. It is worth the price and it does last a good amount of time. This is my first Philosophy product and it just made me want to try more. Sephora offers some sample packages if you want to try a few of their products at once. I also really like their face wash.
