5 stars Another great performance by DP!
Deep Purple - New, Live and Rare: A great DVD that covers DP from 1984 to 2003.

Deep Purple: Come Hell or High Water: I've had trouble with this one due to Blackmore acting up on stage.

Deep Purple Live in Australia 1999 - Total Abandon (2000): One of my favorite DVD concerts. Period!

Deep Purple - Live at Montreux 1996 (2006): Get Total Abandon 1st, if you want MORE DP after that, buy this one. Very good flim quality and another great DP concert.

Bombay Calling (2000): I was unsure about buying this one due to the (bootleg) film quality of this one. It don't matter - it's still a great concert & filmed in HD. Sure, the lighting is a little low at times, but hey, it's a live act. If you like Total Adandon & Montreux 1996 & still need your DP fix, get this one too. I've watched it a couple of times now & Bombay has grown on me. The live version of "Smoke on The Water" is simply stunning. I'm giving it 5 stars due to the fact that I plan on watching this one many times. This concert will be like an old friend to me.

DP does a lot of the same concert songs on their DVD's, but every live version sounds fresh & new to me. These guy's are one of the greatest rock groups ever in my book.

Now if DP would just release their 1996 Moscow concert........

5 stars Thanks for Playing in India!!
Sure, the other reviewer is spot on!! The recordings are pretty awkward in several places. But for Deep Purple fans like me, it was still a wonderful concert. Darn! The band seems young in this. Is it just me who thinks this???

Someone should also thank DP for touring in India. They have fans all over the world. But its hard for developing countries to attract some 1st World bands. I think mostly cus the fans can't pay as much, so many bands don't go there.

3 stars Inferior quality
Blackmore's gone and Morse is in. What do you expect from the guys? A blast? No. Purple is back doing their "The Battle Rages on" tour setlist with a few new songs completing the set. The video started with the interview with the band and suddenly "Fireball" just started while Morse is talking. The sound is thin and very low in mix. You'll see Morse still adjusting with the band and he failed, most notably "Child in Time" and "Anya". The camera shots were poorly executed! Missing a lot of solos from Jon Lord. It's kind of pricy for this kind of DVD (Well this DVD was re-produced this year and the Korean concert was included and they beefed up the sound from a mere 2 ch stereo to 5.1 dolby surrounds). Get the Total Abandon DVD if you're looking for a great viewing pleasure.

3 stars It's A Beautiful Day
I usually don't write reviews on products I haven't seen, but I had to comment on the title of this DVD.

Bombay Calling is the title of an instrumental track on It's A Beautiful Day's first album. Deep Purple stole the opening and used in Child In Time (I think they even admit it). So it is interesting that this title was chosen for a Deep Purple DVD.

Deep Purple also stole It's A Beautiful Day's Don and Dewey and called it Wring That Neck. Deep Purple and It's A Beautiful Day played together at the Fillmore.

5 stars great band - total abandon live 1999 is better concert/dvd
The first concert with steve morse . deep purple deserve 5 stars ... but "this concert presentation contains rare analogue archival footage wich vary slightly in quality ..." recorded " dolby digital " with average sound quality and poor picture quality . steve morse start this concert badly with fireball and black knight but amazed us from the fifth track " the battle rages on" ," when blind man cries" , child in time" and became better and better ....
in 1999 live concert " total abandon" he is perfect.
ian gillan is still good vocalist with great voice but he lost his voice in this concert ( especially in " pictures of home").
total abandon is much better in all meanings but you will not find there " maybe im a leo" , " a battle rages on", purpendicular walz"," child in time" , " anya" so if you cant manage " total abandon" take and enjoy" bombay calling".
