Product Description: Universal Pictures made a great deal of money from its monster movies in the 1930s. In the early '40s, the burlesque team of Bud Abbott and Lou Costello kept the studio's coffers full. When the two franchises were combined in 1948, the result was another windfall--despite the apparent oil-and-water mix of subject matter. Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein was the first of these summit meetings, although the title is a misnomer. Actually, Bud and Lou bump into most of the Universal heavy-hitters, including Count Dracula (played by Béla Lugosi himself), the Wolfman (Lon Chaney Jr.), and the Frankenstein monster (veteran monster Glenn Strange). There's even a token appearance by the Invisible Man, whose disembodied voice is recognizable as that of Vincent Price. Sure enough, the film is funny, especially since it gives the portly Costello multiple opportunities to do his wide-eyed, quivering scaredy-cat routine. Audiences ate it up, and in future installments Bud and Lou would run into Boris Karloff, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, the Invisible Man, and the Mummy. But the first was the best. --Robert Horton

Customer Reviews

5 stars Abbott& Costello Meet Frankenstein.
This is one of the best movies I have, it is worth buying for years of enjoyment for all ages.

5 stars Great monster movie
Of course this is a silly movie but it's great. You have a werewolf, a vampire and a monster combined with the silly humor of Abbott and Costello. This is without a doubt the best monster comedy of all time. It's a treasure of nonsence.

5 stars "ALWAYS BEEN A GREAT AND FUNNY MOVIE"
I have always enjoyed "ABBOTT & COSTELLO MEET FRANKENSTEIN" ever since I watched it on TV many times when I was young and growing up. BUT....if I had the power to change the title, I would call it "ABBOTT & COSTELLO MEET THE MONSTERS" since the Boys take on the famous Movie Monsters that we all grew up with-namely,Dracula,the Wolf-Man and Frankenstein's MONSTER(known in the film simply as "The Monster". FRANKENSTEIN is the name of the Doctor who CREATED the Monster).Anyway it's a hilarious array of horror highjinks and ghoulish fun!

5 stars Best of Abbott and Costello
This is the best Abbott and Costello movie there is. The loose plot and the appearance of Bela Lugosi as Dracula only highlight the talents of these two comedians.

5 stars Recommend to any fan of original Frankenstein/Dracula movies.
My 8 year old thinks this video is great. He's a big fan of the old Frankenstein/Dracula/Invisible Man/Mummy collection movies. He loves the comedy on Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein.
