Product Description: Create a wireless network to share high-speed Internet access with computers, game consoles, or media players from greater distances in your home or office. Using D-Link Xteme-N wireless products makes it really easy!
The D-Link DIR-655 Xtreme N Gigabit Router is a draft 802.11n compliant device that delivers up to 14x faster speeds and 6x farther range than 802.11g while staying backward compatible with 802.11g and 802.11b devices. Connect the Xtreme N Gigabit Router to a cable or DSL modem and provide high-speed Internet access to multiple computers, game consoles, and media players. Create a secure wireless network to share photos, files, music, videos, printers, and network storage.
With some routers, all wired and wireless traffic, including VoIP, Video Streaming, Online Gaming, and Web browsing are mixed together into a single data stream. By handling data this way, applications like video streaming could pause or delay. With D-Link's Intelligent QoS Technology, wired and wireless traffic is analyzed and separated into multiple data streams. These streams are then categorized by sensitivity to delay, so applications like VoIP, Video Streaming, and Online Gaming are given priority over Web browsing. This enables multiple applications to stream smoothly to your TV or PC. Delivering best-in-class performance, network security, and coverage, this router is the ideal centerpiece for your wireless network in the home or office. Backward compatible with 802.11g and 802.11b devices including game consoles and digital media players

Customer Reviews

4 stars Not bad....
The directions could have been clearer...on the disk it indicates that you must install the enclosed software on any computer that will use your Wireless N Router...not true. Also, they don't mention that even after you successfully set up the router, you will need to reboot a few times to have it connect wirelessly. Once set up was complete, it works well.

5 stars D-Link Wireless Router DIR-655 Etreme N
It works like a charm. Read and followed the simple setup instructions. I have a simple three computer setup with printer and file sharing. Network Magic application helped tune up performance of overall network. The combined applications' instructions are very simple to follow; especially, for setting encryption security and tweeking feature's performace.
One must read and follow instructions. No magic or voodoo, just common sense and "git-r-done'. On my COX high speed broadband connection, I consistantly get 4,000 kb downloads and 1000 kb uploads, and the range of wireless devices from my wireless router is nothing short of awesome.

I highly recommended this D-Link routher for setting up a secure, hi-speed home network.

5 stars D-Link DIR 655 Extreme N router
Easy setup using the DLink software. Wireless download and upload speeds were noticeably faster even without the Wireless N Adapter. Once you add on a wireless N adapter (recommend using D-Link for compatibility issues) everything is great. The enclosed Network Magic software allows you to easily setup a home network, and allows you to share folders on other computers without using the Windows built in version of network setup.

5 stars Better range than my old Linksys
I bought this hoping that I could get a little better range than my Linksys WRT546GS. I've had that router for a couple years now, and it was great for that time, but I figure that's long enough for a router, so I thought I'd try the DLink. Works great. Easy setup (as I experienced with Netgear, but not necessarily with Linksys, as I recall). I don't know about the N standard, have no devices that use it, but I do know that my B and G devices are showing faster and stronger connection speeds with this router than the Linksys. It's located, btw, upstairs in a two-story house, behind a closed door. All the computers are downstairs. I'll need to check online if anything can be effectively hooked up to the USB port, because a big harddrive would be nice....

2 stars Confusing
I was going to upgrade my Linksys 54G to D-Link N, but to confusing. If you have a Windows OS, I
guess it would be easier, but I have a Mac system. I got one computer to work, but my other wireless
devices, couldn't connect. A little confusing. So, I went back to my slow, but faithful Linksys. Maybe
I'll buy a new Linksys N router.

I brought a new Links wireless WRT160N from Walmart; sorry Amazon, router and have been trying to get it to work for the last 2 days; but it wouldn't connect, whatever I did. Finally, out of desperation, I switched over to Firefox and EVERYTHING started working!!!! My probelm all along had not been the new router or Network preferences, but SAFARI!!! It was screwing things up. I would recommend that if you are upgrading to a new 'N' router, stay away from Safari and use Firefox, to access your 192.168.1.1 Linksys page. Webpages load super fast and everything is allot smoother. I'm switching over to Firefox.

I don't know what it is about Safari, but Linksys wireless router, definitely do not like it.

I can't really say if the D-Link router was any good or bad; since I never really got a chance to test it, prior
to sending it back. All along it was Safari browser screwing things up.
