Product Description: In the ongoing deluge of comic-book adaptations, Hellboy ranks well above average. Having turned down an offer to helm Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban in favor of bringing Hellboy's origin story to the big screen, the gifted Mexican director Guillermo del Toro compensates for the excesses of Blade II with a moodily effective, consistently entertaining action-packed fantasy, beginning in 1944 when the mad monk Rasputin--in cahoots with occult-buff Hitler and his Nazi thugs--opens a transdimensional portal through which a baby demon emerges, capable of destroying the world with his powers. Instead, the aptly named Hellboy is raised by the benevolent Prof. Bloom, founder of the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense, whose allied forces enlist the adult Hellboy (Ron Perlman, perfectly cast) to battle evil at every turn. While nursing a melancholy love for the comely firestarter Liz (Selma Blair), Hellboy files his demonic horns ("to fit in," says Bloom) and wreaks havoc on the bad guys. The action is occasionally routine (the movie suffers when compared to the similar X-Men blockbusters), but del Toro and Perlman have honored Mike Mignola's original Dark Horse comics with a lavish and loyal interpretation, retaining the amusing and sympathetic quirks of character that made the comic-book Hellboy a pop-culture original. He's red as a lobster, puffs stogies like Groucho Marx, and fights the good fight with a kind but troubled heart. What's not to like? --Jeff Shannon

4 stars Myth Meets Superhero
Not your run-of-the-mill comic book/superhero movie, Guillermo del Toro's Hellboy has more in common with monster-fantasies like the Mummy, Van Helsing and mythological classics like Clash of the Titans. In this case, those hoping for an X-Men style action flick might find themselves perplexed or even disappointed. But del Toro knows what he's doing, he creates a stunning world of labyrinthine tunnels populated by the most remarkable, fanciful creatures. del Toro's monsters surpass anything dreamed up by M. Night Shyamalan or anyone else in Hollywood these days. Yet the actors who portray them manage to make such alien creatures familiar and sympathetic.

It's rare to find a director with vision so unique, as well as a great story to tell. And the story of Hellboy is a fantastic tale suffused with wry humor and an epic battle between good and evil, choice and destiny, sin and redemption at its core.

5 stars Hellboy
Every thing was perfect, the amount of time they said it would take and helping with any questions I may have. A great experience on the whole.

5 stars Hellboy
Another Great movie!! Not sure I'd let young one's watch it though, a few scary things going on & definately a bit on the violent side, but easy to take because you know it's from a comic series or something. Can't wait for part 2 to come to DVD ~ Would Definately recommend this

5 stars GREAT
My wife and I saw when this first came out on DVD years ago,
but we thought it would not be something we would want to watch.
yet when we saw the previews for HellBoy Two on TV it made us
rethink it and I decided to buy HellBoy one. It was wonderful.
We both thought it was great and it had us sitting at the edge
of our seats. We are both now impatiently waiting for the
release of HellBoy Two to DVD, being my health prevents me from
going to movie theaters. Hurry up and release HellBoy Two.
We can't wait and I am sure you will love HellBoy One just as
much if not more than we did (if at all possible hehe).

4 stars A red hot love story
"There lived a certain man in Russia long ago
He was big and strong, in his eyes a flaming glow"
("Rasputin" by Boney M)

Short Attention Span Summary (SASS):

1. German military says "Ra Ra Rasputin" , and tries to open a portal to another dimension
2. US Army shows up and all Hellboy breaks loose
3. Forget music - it's a Baby Ruth that soothes a savage beast
4. Fast forward 60 years and Hellboy and his friends are attached to the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense
5. His friends include a fishy character named Abe, and a hot chick named Liz who's in denial
6. Rasputin and his gang show up and release a nasty creature named Sammael who goes forth and multiplies
7. Newbie from the FBI gets baptism by fire
8. Lots of killings follow
9. As Inigo Montoya (from Princess Bride) once said (several times) "......Prepare to die"

Lots of paranormal stuff, out-of-this-world special effects, and strong performances by Ron Perlman, Selma Blair, John Hurt, Doug Jones and Karel Roden, among others, make for an action-packed fantasy adventure in itself, and recommended viewing before watching Hellboy II

A red hot love story that's definitely not a chick flick.
