Hall from "Six Feet Under") is adopted by a police officer who recognizes Dexter's homicidal tendencies and guides his son to channel his gruesome passion for human vivisection in a constructive way - by killing those heinous perpetrators that are above the law or who have slipped through the cracks of justice. Amazing Show!
Dexter is unique, with compelling characters and a plot line unlike anything else on television. I was hooked from the first episode. Great show, I want more!

Great show...bad disks
I LOVE this show. It is worth keeping in the house to watch over and over. However, when i bought the disks they were scratched even though they were brand new! I couldn't even watch the season finale because the routing menu wouldn't work. I exchanged the disks with amazon for new ones and the new disks did the same thing. It must be a manufacturing error. Just be aware.

An exciting and interesting perspective
I first got hooked watching it online from a company that rents movies through the mail that also allows you to watch instantly through the interwebs. I got hooked and loved the series. The first season is great (IMO better than the second). He appears more normal in the 2nd season and strayed away from his quirks.

I'm hooked!
My fiance and I don't have TV, so we rent all of the television shows that we watch. I rented the first season when my fiance was out of town, and I watch the whole season in one night! I don't usually like "scary" things, but I was hooked. When my fiance got back home, he watched the whole first season in one night too. We bought both the first and second season off of Amazon, and we have been watching them almost every night since.
It is a great, original show. It's a nice break from the traditional cop shows like Law and Order (though I have to admit I love SVU). The character development is fabulous! You are really able to relate to the characters and understand their motivations. My favorite part is all of the surprising twists!

Great, but a bit overhyped
Don't get me wrong, its an entertaining show, and at 20 bucks, you should definitely grab it. To compare it to shows like Six Feet Under is absolutely ridiculous though. The idea of Dexter being a sociopath is not exploited to its full potential, IMO. Too much of the time he blends in so much you forget all about it, then you have to be reminded by forced voice overs and flashbacks. This is a good DVD set though, I see lots of folks complaining about the transfer. What can I say, don't spend 50 zillion bucks on your TV/Home theatre and you won't be so disappointed. For 20 bones you get 12 doses of Dexter, AND two episodes of Brotherhood, and one of The Tudors if you have the time to screw around with the PC feature. Not bad considering that people were lining up out the door to fork over 100 bucks for The Sopranos not too long ago.
