Product Description: The fairest lady indeed. Was there ever a time when Audrey Hepburn was not drop-dead beautiful, poised beyond belief, and bearing a smile that Julia Roberts would kill for? Not according to this installment of A&E's popular Biography series, which delivers a softball portrait of Hepburn's personal and professional travails; then again, it seems by all accounts that she led a charmed life. Born in war-torn Europe (with a Nazi-sympathizer father who abandoned his wife and daughter), young Hepburn grew up with dreams of becoming a dancer--acting was merely a means unto an end. On the set for a little-known film called Monte Carlo Baby, Hepburn was spotted by French writer Colette, who was searching for an ingenue to play the title role in the Broadway-bound Gigi. The rest is history--Hepburn got the part, rave reviews greeted her American debut, and Hollywood came a-calling with Roman Holiday, which nabbed Hepburn an Oscar at the age of 24. The Fairest Lady does a quick but thorough overview of the highlights of Hepburn's film career (with clips from The Nun's Story, Breakfast at Tiffany's, and, of course, My Fair Lady), and a better-than-average view of Hepburn's personal life. Despite the turmoil of two failed marriages to actor Mel Ferrer and Italian doctor Andrea Dotti, we're treated to a clear-eyed view of her offscreen life, thanks primarily to unsentimental interviews with Hepburn's first son, Sean Ferrer. Retiring more or less after 1967's Wait Until Dark, Hepburn turned her life toward raising her two sons and fulfilling her role as goodwill ambassador for UNICEF, working tirelessly until her death from cancer in 1993. --Mark Englehart

5 stars endearing summary of Audrey Hepburn's life
I was pleased with this biography of Audrey Hepburn's life which included some rare footage. It's not surprising why she remains one of Hollywood's most beloved actresses.
