Product Description: Shot on location , this beautiful program chronicles the life of Saint Francis of Assisi, the creator and guiding spirit of the Franciscan Order.

Period paintings and a dramatic performance by Tom Melissis portray the story of young Francis Bernardone, who leaves his wealthy family in medieval Assisi in search of knighthood and returns a changed man. Young Francis isolates himself from the world, reaches out to God, and discovers that his life has compelling and transcending purpose.

Various Franciscans guide us through his historical times. They show how he lived peacefully in poverty, helped to rebuild the churches of Assisi and how he quickly gathered a large following. Finally, they recount where Francis received the stigmata and his significance therein sealed forever.

Fascinating Franciscans relate how and why they joined the order. In each case, their fears, desires and experiences mirror that of Saint Francis'. One such monk is Father Paul Iorio, an American hippie who moved to Assisi and joined the Franciscan order after a search to gain meaning in life. We also meet Brothers Berry and Allan who invite us to Saint Francis' Table, a restaurant dedicated to providing dignity to the homeless of Toronto. Sister Pacelli takes us through a Poor Clare's monastery where the sisters sing their beautiful prayers. These believers express their need, as disciples of Saint Francis, to uphold his legacy and continue his mission to aid the impoverished and needy.
