Product Description: This Yankee Flipper squirrel-proof feeder is the ultimate feeder for keeping your feathered friends fed, and the furred fiends hungry. Let's talk about the basics first. The sturdy polycarbonate feeding chamber is a whopping 4-3/4 inches in diameter and 21 inches long, giving you a break between refills--and ensuring that squirrels can't hang down from the top to reach seed. The four feeding chambers are easily accessible via the perch ring, and the interior of the chamber is designed to direct seed into the seed ports. Now, for the fun stuff: The birdfeeder features an encased motor and rechargeable (and replaceable) batteries. When you receive the feeder, simply charge the batteries overnight, hang the feeder from its looped bail wire, and prepare to be amazed (and entertained!). The motor is connected to the weight activated perch ring--birds will not set it off, even larger species like woodpeckers and cardinals. But the minute a squirrel hops onto the perch, the motor is triggered and the feeder begins spinning, taking the squirrel for a whirl before it loses its grip and is thrown (gently) from the perch. It's a humanitarian way to deal with persistent squirrels--there are no shocks or poisons to hurt them, simply a wild ride that they won't be inclined to repeat. Birds are free to eat without disruption, and your family will get a kick out of watching squirrels go for their rides. There's a lifetime warranty on the feeder body and a one-year warranty on the motor and battery charger. --Ariel Meadow Stallings

Offers most complete protection against squirrels
Other similar looking bird feeders do not control squirrels to the extent of this product. Key features of this product include: force of the spin, rechargeability, and ease of use. I would highly recommend this product to anyone. Previous versions of the product had issues with rechargeability. Those issues have been addressed with this newer version.

Unfortunately, Not squirrel proof
Much as I wanted this product to work, in less than a week, the 5 lbs of seed this feeder holds was all on the ground. I changed locations but it was the same situation. I have not actually seen a squirrel empty the feeder (could it be mourning doves, or something else?)but they are close by and feeding on ground droppings. Now I have to fill the feeder with a small amount on a daily basis just to conserve feed and be able to feed some birds before it is emptied (usually within a few hours of being filled no matter what time of day). I will try the Brome Squirrel Buster next but it also appeared to have mixed success.

Very Pleased
We have been very pleased with this product. This is the second one we have owned, but the failure of the first one was through our carelessness--we lost the charger. When we first purchased it, I was skeptical. We have an extremely large squirrel population, and everything else we had tried worked only very briefly before they figured out how to get around it. This is truly effective. It doesn't have to be charged very often. The squirrels learn quickly not to get on it. I've never actually seen it throw one off but once, but what I do see is the squirrels trying to get up the nerve to get on it. They never do. We had the last one for several years and never had a problem. I highly recommend this product if you have a serious squirrel problem.

Great feeder; great customer service
We've had our feeder for about a year and a half. It is suspended from a sturdy pole on our back deck. The birds found it within half an hour of hanging. The squirrels studied it and made a number of attempts to solve the riddle, to no avail, but it was ages before we ever got the reward of seeing one flipped. They have thoroughly gnawed on the lid and the hanging wire. Recently one has gnawed holes in the plastic near where the wire goes through, making me fear that the wire would give way and the feeder would drop and break, so I would suggest a design modification to reinforce the top inch or two of the tube with metal. I called the company to ask about purchasing a replacement tube, and when the associate learned I needed it due to squirrel damage, she sent the tube at no charge under their warranty. Overall, we're very happy with this feeder and heartily recommend it.
Minor downside - birds are messy and drop or scatter a lot of seed on the ground. With nothing to catch spilled seed, there's more waste than I'd like. However, it's a trade-off - a seedcatcher would give squirrels a perch to eat from, defeating the purpose entirely.
Minor caveat - the nut holding the perch on works loose with the repeated vibrations/squirrel twirls. Check it and tighten periodically, otherwise you may discover the whole perch assembly on the ground, and a bunch of very confused birds wondering how to get the food.

Yankee Flipper
We have had a lot of birds and very few squirrels, they must have had a twirl without us seeing them, but the chipmonks have learned how to balance and fill their cheeks without any spinning. We must defeat the chipies too...........
