Customer Reviews
Will not travel without it!!
Our family needed something to carry some luggage on the roof of our Town and Country for a trip to the West. After researching things and reading reviews on this luggage carrier, I decided I would give this a try. I stuffed a very large suitcase, ski gear duffelbag and childs pack and play inside with some room to spare. We traveled 4200 miles in 12 days, which included heavy thunderstorms, high winds, and hot and cold temperatures. Everything inside remained completely dry. During our trip, I loaded and unloaded this carrier about 8 times and pulled it off the roof each time it was unloaded with ease! I never experienced the straps coming loose at all while driving, like some other people had mentioned. Once they were tightened down, they stayed put! Just in case those reviews were correct, I did place to bungee cords across this to be sure, but they were not needed and I am confident about that. You will need to tie the excess tiedown straps together on the carrier when it is tightened down, otherwise they would flap around. I really did not noticed any unusal reduction in gas mileage either. It cleans up with soap and water really well to after the trip to get all of the bugs off! Once it is dry, it folds back up nicely and back into the shoesize box it came in for the next trip!
While on our trip I talked with other people who had soft-sided luggage carriers about theirs being water proof and just about everyone I talked to who had different brands all mentioned that their items occasionally would get wet. I never had that problem! All in all this was worth every penny!

not that great
The carrier was very easy to install and holds a lot of stuff. We fit the majority of our luggage for our family of seven in it. These are the good things about the carrier. The negative things are that it dramatically decreased the gas mileage for our van (we lost about 120 miles per tank) and because we had filled the carrier full, the resistance was very noticeable when driving. This carrier works best on cars that have the rack bars running perpendicular to the length of the car. We had no problems with the carrier slipping until we switched vehicles on the way home and the van we had had parallel bars. We pulled over a few times to tighten the straps. We ended up knotting the straps but eventually one strap tore loose from the body of the carrier while we were driving. It was a huge pain to find room in the van for all the luggage. I would not purchase this if your rack bars run parallel to the length of the body of your car. Oh yes, the bag had several tears and rips in it by the time we got to our destination. I am not sure how they got there since we only had luggage in it.

Kar Pak performance
After looking at many luggage carriers both hard and soft side, I decided to give the Kar Pak a try because of price and the reviews I read on Amazon. We took it to the Black Hills becuase we wanted to free up vehicle space so we put all the luggage on top. On the way across South Dakota the wind blew 30 to 45 mph, it made it to the Black Hills in one piece with all our lugguage. It never rained the whole weekend so we did not get to test the water proof part!

Nice, but didn't fit
This appears to be a really nice collapsible cartop carrier, roomy size, heavy material, sturdy zipper. We had to send it back because it just didn't fit on our 07 Hyundai Sante Fe w/ sunroof. My advice would be to measure in advance (BEFORE ordering) because even though we called the manufacturer to make sure it was compatible w/crossbars & our vehicle, we didn't MEASURE and when it arrived we learned that the space between the crossbars just didn't accomodate the base of this item because it was so large. (And our vehicle doesn't have roof rails, just the crossbars). We would've kept it had the size been correct, but are returning it for a smaller carrier with a 32" base instead.

Ripped the first time we used it
The carrier ripped (a huge rip) the first time we used it. It was a huge pain, b/c we got all of our stuff to our destination but had no way to get it back!
I'm going to try to return it. I regret this purchase and would give it zero stars if I could.
