Customer Reviews
This is a PSP 2001 - NOT a PSP 2000 as listed.
For the love of cheese, it would be nice if people knew the product they sold or made.
I noticed a little something here with the title of the product "PSP 2000" ... it seemed a bit odd, so I googled galore.
There are certainly a lot of authoritative firm responses to "what is the difference between 2000 and 2001"... some say "color", some say "year made" (seriously?), say say "location" as to where it's from or what countries can buy it, and it goes on. Asking retailers to explain the difference (and you know you are dealing with kids in this situation, but who better than kids to know the answer?!) ... you still get nothing remotely intelligent. Then of course, there is contacting Sony... and you get the initial irrelevant form letter response from Apu which then escalates to someone who speaks English in a few days who has their own form letter response.
The ultimate result is that I was told, by Sony, that I should NOT buy a PSP 2000 if I live in the USA. (deduct 1 star)
However, in between the time of ordering and dealing with morons, it arrived. I finally found the characters "psp2001" in the serial number. So, it's pretty obvious that Amazon simply needs to change their text, and it will most likely sell better.
I went on and on about this because I knew what I went through to get answers was frustrating, so I hope it hepps others.
With all that aside, I love the console. Have it networked with my internet connection, router, PS3 and remote play is up and running. The internet browser is fairly useless and cumbersome, but works to watch YouTube or check gmail etc.
The downside is accepted, but not really acceptable. This being the lack of a memory stick. Would it have killed sony to include a minimum of a 256mb card? You MUST use a memory stick, so don't just buy the console. I ended up paying an additional $40 for a 2gb stick, which delayed me a day from playing the game at all. You need the card to update the console to it's latest configuration, and for use to play with any game umd. And I am not really feeling the durability of the console. It's light, yes, but the plastic case feels like it will fall apart. And let's throw in another annoyance of no type of case or sleeve for protection. (deduct another star)
Sounds like a lot of negative, but the end result is a very fun gaming console with lots of ability. It is 5 star fun. 3 star friggin' annoying service.
It's ok for the $169 price, but you are looking at about $200 once you get the needed memory stick.

I like silver
PSP is awesome! I also like the fact that it comes in silver, so fingerprint aren't really visible. I am very satisfied with my purchase; it's an awesome way to kill time during my daily train commute. I am not too fond of the game selections, hence only not five stars. Otherwise, five stars of the console itself!

Like a mini PS2
My first small hand held game system, very well done with bright color screen and pretty good graphics in the palm of your hand. Battery seems to last a decent period of time. The Star Wars marking is what sold me on the PSP, I have always wanted one, but was not motivated like Star Wars could motivate me. Game is fun, similar to other games of same title on PS2. Would recomend this Sony product and it is great to use with PS3 system and you can download games into PSP, great technology.

PSP How many can you own?
I own 6 of these babies. I know too many. I love the PSP it is the best portable machine out there. Come on folks, you can play games on it. You can be on/in the internet with it. You can view your home brew pictures on it including slide shows. Plus you can take it to grandmas house and display them on her TV with this fantastic 2000 model. You can even watch videos on the tv with it, albeit the graphic quality is a bit lower than with normal dvd. You can play wireless games on it. So your two kiddies will have something to do in the car besides watching videos or fighting. Common sense on this one though. The screen is a lot smaller on the psp than your TV or monitor but then so what. It is the best baby sitter for kids around. They want to watch a video in the car quietly. Plug in the ear buds or head phones and let them go at it. There is the nice option of limiting the sound volume so they don't ever have to say in a year or two. eh! mom what did you say? They will not hurt their hearing with this option turned on and I recommend it. All the other options are great in their own right and if you don't own one you should. There is software out there so you can take your home videos and play on the PSP. Hands down this is the best machine out there. I take it everywhere. If you hubby is a trucker and there are millions of them now. He should own one of these babies. Also don't forget you can listen to all the music you would ever want on this baby too. All machines wrapped into one beautiful package. Video player, MP3 player, game machine, Picture viewer.
I am 51 going half blind and deaf and love this machine. If it handed me a soda pop it would be perfect.
