Customer Reviews
puzzle quest not as good as it sounds
I wanted to surprise my son (15) for Easter so I didn't ask him for the name of a new game. This was in the 2007 list of best games and sounded good. However, upon loading it, the writing is very tiny, even for his eyes, and the game not very challenging. He played it about four times and now is back using old games he had.

Difficult Quest, but addictive
I happen to have the PS2 version of this game, and when i purchased my PSP, this game was at the top of the list. It's just plain addictive, even with the slowdown and load times.
It's easy enough to pick up and play, and even though you will cringe at how the enemy "seems" to know what's coming down, (hence the difficulty) even though you can't see it, when you hit you first epic combo, you'll be caught.
Pros:
Charm
Ease of play
Addictive gameplay
Difficult but excellent AI
Cons:
Load time
Slowdown during certain spells
Even with the cons, this is still a 5 star game, period.

Actions speak louder than words
Everything people said highly touting this game is true. Deep fun puzzle game that appeals to people who love Bejeweled and even Magic: the gathering. I bought one, and days later am back to buy 2 more for my friends.

Horribly Addictive... that's a good thing.
I know what you're thinking, "It's just a puzzle game with a tacked on cheesy story." Well, the truth is the story and RPG elements make this feel like much more than a puzzle game.
Basically battles are played out in a turn-based, bejeweled-like puzzle. You cast magic during the battle. You level up your character. The neat thing is that you play different variations of the puzzle to accomplish different events. There's strategy and choices to be made, and it gets very engrossing. It's long too. You'll be playing for quite some time... then you might come back to play again with a different character.
Make no mistake about it. This is not an action game. It's a puzzle, RPG-ish, strategy-ish game. It may move too slowly if you just want a hack and slash fix. If you like puzzle games and RPGs, then this game will take over your PSP for a good long while.
Highs:
Story
RPG elements
Magic to use in battles
Feels like you really EARN your wins
Capturing enemies and learning their magic
Taking over other cities
Length
Looks nice on the PSP
Themed music
It's available on every game system and PCs too.
Lows:
It sucks your time
You secretly sneak your PSP around to play every chance you get
Feels like CPU is too good sometimes
You'll lose battles frequently (but you feel compelled to come back for more abuse)
Battle same type of enemies more often than you'd like
3D map might have been cooler

Sweet little RPG with a twist
I am a not much of a puzzle fan but I love RPGs. I just got a PsP for X-Mas and this was one of the titles that i picked up. I am pretty far into the game and have to say that it does get a little tough and that you may find yourself facing the same enemy several times before you are "victorious". Although it is not your typical rpg and whether or not you are into those match three like "whatevers" I highly recommend this game..
