4 stars Beautiful film to watch; Way too long
I enjoyed watching the acting tour de force between Mr. Pitt and Mr. Affleck, but it's Sam Rockwell who deserves the accolades. Brilliant photography and direction, and a very carefully written script can't change the fact that at, almost 3 hours, it wasn't as exciting as I'd hoped it would be. Certainly, it's a good lesson about the "real" Jesse James (nasty guy) and Robert Ford (wannabe idiot). I wasn't revved by the narrative, but it was certainly a complete narative and beautifully acted.

5 stars Movie, of course. Art, most defintetly!
This movie is an art film. Watch closely and perhaps you can pick-up on the film's expression. You have to look beyond, and deeper, than the action, the story, the man, Jesse James, and the cowboy theme. This movie expresses the grand writing style of Ron Hansen's novel, of the same title, and the direction of Andrew Dominik. Spend time and allow this film to communicate to you its finer qualities.

1 stars Jesse James....
Hero? Robin Hood? Since when does the bad guy become something we should honor??? While showing that this man is a thief, the moderator describes Jesse James as a really nice guy but pushed into a life of crime. What about the people he stole from or killed? Sorry, if someone shot him in the back or shot him in the front I could care less just so long as he was taken out of this society!

Brad Pitt's acting was as usual....slow and not a whole lot of dialog. The movie itself is slow, slow and slow with a rushed ending.

5 stars Brad Pitt's ultimate masterpiece
Hello there,

Dear mr. Pitt,

The Best Brad Pitt Movie Ever.

If you ever get a chance to see my review , this is in my honest opinion your best film.
I think this film is so good that it has changed everything and that like E = MC2 , most people aren't realizing the change that's taking place in Hollywood filmmaking as a result of making movies like this and There Will Be Blood.
I have watched one Jesse James movie before and no matter who may or may not agree with me for me this film will be that movie's sequel.

regards,

4 stars a lengthy reminder that brad pitt can truly act
i watched this film over two evenings . initially , i felt this beautifully shot and universally well acted film (with an excellent narrative) was glorifying a group of men who were substantial turds . i had reservations about the need for the long running time and seemingly glacial pace the film was taking . on the second night i saw more clearly how (as other folks write here) the narative and arc were very nutral and dispassionate . it truly was an awesome year for CASEY AFFLECK (what with his brother's brilliant directorial project "GONE BABY GONE") comming out the same year . some will not care for the picture at all i suppose . put me in the other catagory . i was reminded that pretty boy BRAD PITT can really act (outside the vanity projects GEORGE CLOONEY injects him into) and treated to a well above average story telling that will probably continue to grow upon reflection . most aspects of the film are quite outstanding . it may test your endurance , but it will reward the patient .
