Product Description: "Better music through science" was the Epic Records-coined slogan that Boston leader Tom Scholz hated, but this masterwork of studio-happy, high-school-parking-lot music earned it. Scholz fine-tuned his overdubbed guitar orchestra to a pitch that a thousand subsequent album-rockers couldn't resist. And why should they? Where the band's later records were hardly worthy of note, Boston pulls together classic after classic: "More Than a Feeling," "Peace of Mind," "Hitch a Ride." The pseudo-cosmic ambience invites scoffs as the year 2000 recedes into the past, but it's really just part of the disc's charm. Let it take you home tonight. --Rickey Wright

Customer Reviews
Best Boston Album of All Time!!!
Boston in my opinion is one of the best bands of all time and their newly remastered first album is no different. With classics Like More Then a Feeling, Peace of Mind, and Rock and Roll Band I find it hard to believe that someone could not enjoy this music. I like how also the cover booklet contains history and facts about Boston.

Perfection.
This album is the standard by which all recorded music will be measured. This is flawless.

classic
Don't get this album unless you want to hear great music from beginning to end. The sound is just phenomenal.

I don't get it...
This band is really not that good. Unfortunate me, I bought into the hype, and the awesome cover illustration, purchasing a Tshirt featuring that artwork before I had even heard the album. Oy, what a letdown. More than a Feeling is a decent song, but most of this record is just bland. Not bad, precisely, and capturing a certain 70s Zeitgeist, competently played... but jeez, they're so highly regarded, I have to round down from 2 and a half stars to 2. Whereas bands like Led Zep have stood the test of time, I definitely can't say the same for these guys. On the bright side, it's a pretty cheap buy from Amazon, so if you don't believe me you won't be too put out.

Boston Hits a Home Run
If there is one album that captures the arena rock of the 1970s, this 1976 Tom Scholz guitar-laden, wall-of-sound takes off with the first cut - More Than A Feeling - and stays in the stratosphere when the final number - Let Me Take You Home Tonight - fades out.
And it's the technical artistry of Scholz on guitar, bass and keyboards, while adjusting the studio dials in his basement studio - where nearly all the instruments were recorded - that hits the home run. Virtually all of the vocals of Brad Delp were done in Los Angeles with Epic Records producer, John Boylan.
The mystique of the album was further enhanced through only two tracks including all the musicians who toured as Boston, Foreplay/Long Time and Let Me Take You Home Tonight.
With More Than A Feeling, Rock & Roll Band, Smokin' and Hitch A Ride continuing to dominate the Classic Rock radio format, the vision of Scholz that an artist who is given true creative license can ultimately deliver a solid project will continue to be heard as a winning formula.
