4 stars George Jones-Golden Hits
If you are a george jones fan this is a great dvd,a must have. This is the real deal, this dvd has good to great video qulity for its age, they must have remastered some of the older video clips. He is one of the top 5 greatest singers of all time.

4 stars 50 Minutes of Country and Western Memories over 33 Years
For a short time George Jones carried the title of Thumper Jones but there is little evidence of the source of this name until the final song on the DVD, 'I Don't Need your Rocking Chair'. (released 1992, long after he won the title of Thumper.)

Sure, the other 13 songs are in genuine Country and Western mode, with a few to bring tears to your eyes, but not so with 'I Don't Need Your Rocking Chair.'
C and W performers are not expected to show happiness and joy as they render their numbers but George and his supporting cast put the sad image behind them as they whoop up this upbeat rendering. You will want to play this track over and over once you become infected.

Remember when you watch it that the man was then 61 years of age and overcame several bouts of rehab to deal with alcohol and drugs, and one would have to believe from his history, some Anger Management treatment as well.

Each number in the DVD has George with an introductory story to tell - mercifully the stories are brief.

Of genuine interest is the change in presentation, as the clips take us through from 1959 to 1992. The artist is barely recognizable in the early tracks when he appears in Mexican style gear and with a stilted cast of performers. And please note the hair style in the early clips!
These early numbers were #1 hits, and while that is hard to believe, we need to have a sense of history in an effort to decode what we are seeing.

'Golden Ring' is a sensitive offering - a duet featuring George with Tammy Wynette. It was released in June 1976 but there is every chance it was recorded in 1975, or prior, the year Tammy and George were divorced after just a few years of marriage.
Much the same might be said about their other duet on the disk 'Near You". This was not released until December 1976 over a year after their divorce. Whatever the recording date, the two artists deliver a tender rendition, including the kiss. Both duets made #1 on the charts.

The good news is that the DVD is in color. Dolby Sound understandably is rated at only 2.0 but quality screen delivery and a better than average sound system will deliver the goods for what is an enjoyable trip through 33 years of Country and Western Time.

5 stars a great full-length clip fest
This home video arrived in 1994, which was the 40th Anniversary of George's professional recording career {having been signed to a label non-stop since 1954}. The video opens up with George greeting us and telling us about the home video. however, the first 'song' is a small clip of "The Grand Tour" during his famed Live in Tennessee home video from 1993 and therefore not a performance from 1974 or 1975, the era when the single was a hit. Also, "White Lightnin" is shown from an early '60s TV show and not from 1959 when the song was released. "The Race is On" and "Walk Through This World With Me" from 1964 and 1967 come from a country show in the late '60s. The year jumps from 1967 to 1974 and we see George on Pop Goes The Country singing "The Door". George tells us that it was a single that the public wanted to hear when they were by theirself because it was "too personal" for many who had family and friends in Vietnam. His Tammy-era is showcased with two performances in 1977 of "Golden Ring" and "Near You". Then we see the early '80s George. This George dressed LESS formal than he once did. The performance of "Bartender's Blues" on this home video is from the early '80s because on another video i have, on that same show, he performs "He Stopped Loving Her Today". Speaking of that #1 song, it also follows "Bartender's Blues" on this home video too. This performance, however, comes from an awards show...George is decked out in a grey/white suit and flashy rings on his finers and he's performing without his guitar!! he does Conway Twitty-style moves as he bends his head forward in certain parts of the song. We next see him in a more toned down look, in a blue suit, singing "If Drinkin' Don't Kill Me"...in which he slips in during the last line of the song: "and If Drinking don't kill me, Tammy's memory will..." and he starts to laugh as the camera pulls away. This home video is the only place to find a full-length performance of that song with that often quoted ad-libbed lyric (it hit #8 in early 1981). The next two performances are from PBS-TV's "Austin City Limits" in 1987. He performs his 1983 #1 "I Always Get Lucky With You" and 1985's #3 "Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes?". The video closes with his 1993 performance of "I Don't Need Your Rockin' Chair" (a #34 hit in early 1993). Remember, all through this home video after every song, it cuts away to George {circa 1994} talking about the songs and their impact on his career and his fans. a wonderful home video companion to 1989's "Same Ole Me" home video and 1987's "Living Legend in Concert".

5 stars Pure Gold
This is a must-have for fans of George Jones, country music, world-class singing or all of the above! Not only are the songs among the most memorable in George's bottomless barrel of outstanding tunes, but the Possum introduces each of them with a bit of trivia that will fascinate fans. I wish he would have taken off those sunglasses though...Makes him look a little sinister, like a closet hit-man for the mob. Country music fans who don't have this DVD in their collection should be arrested!

5 stars Just Pure Magic
I love this video,George, with his emotional voice, full of heart and soul.
It is wonderful from start to finish, Wish he had more that I could buy!!
