Product Description: These two 20-minutes sets are led by instructor Tracey Mallet, whose style invigorating style is both inspiring and annoying. She begins her "Toning Cardio" segment with some energizing yoga and karate blocks. Flanked by two men in camouflage and four women in black spandex, she proceeds to mix jab crosses and hooks, side kicks, and snap kicks with jazz-dance-inspired moves for a demanding total-body workout. In the "Boot Camp" segment (an abridged version of her full-length Cardio Boot Camp DVD), she combines traditional push-ups and jacks with some dance moves, kickboxing, and enough jumps for this workout to qualify as high impact. Those who are uncoordinated or have any knee impairment will quickly get discouraged. Mallet winds things up using a Pilates-style cool-down, with torso and leg work involving scissors and roll-ups. --Kimberly Heinrichs

Customer Reviews

3 stars I don't mind Tracey Mallett...
...but I do hope this isn't her best. Jab, Kick, and Burn is in the mail now, and I was looking forward to its arrival until watching this video. My initial impressions:

.o0 Tracey's really...wild. I mean, she's all over the place. And her form: nothing short of atrocious. I'm a beginning kickboxer, but it requires neither experience nor ingenuity to realize that nothing practiced or planned should look as sloppy as that. Including her lunges, her adaptations of yoga and pilates moves, her...everything.

.o0 The guy to her right, particularly the fact that he never has a clue as to what's going on, is pretty hilarious. Some may find him distracting, but I find him the silver lining in an otherwise bleak cloud of exercise instruction gone wrong.

.o0 I don't find Tracey to be any more annoying than anyone else; I've definitely seen worse. In fact, that's why I gave this video 3 stars: based on previous reviews, I expected her to be the worst part. I was pleasantly surprised.

.o0 I HATE that blasted gallop-with-fast-fists move.

.o0 I understand the benefits of interval training, but. The time devoted to most of the moves, particularly in the laughable "weight training" segment, was too little for any of them to really have their intended effect.

.o0 These workouts are just too short (and, at some points, too slow) to be considered cardio. As soon as you get the hang of the moves, it's over. At the end of the first segment, I was left with that empty, nagging feeling of disappointment. Not because I wanted more, per se, but because I expected it.

.o0 It is a fun video, and certainly a doable one. My intention is to entertain myself by correcting her form and (hopefully) adding some intensity to the workout.

.o0 I'd recommend Keli Roberts in 10 Minute Solutions: Kickbox Bootcamp if you're pressed for time and need a quick cardio workout. Maybe if this DVD were programmable and you could put the two cardio segments together, it would be more worthwhile.

In short, I spent under $5 on eBay--shipped--for this video, and I still feel ripped off. You make the call.

4 stars 20/20 Method...Yes!
After constantly hearing about how the rich and famous are getting and staying in shape with Pilates I decided to check out a few tapes at my local library. Amongst the tapes I checked out was one from the 20/20 Method Series. I liked it so well that I have go on to purchase almost all of the tapes in the series. After doing aerobics and cardio exercises for years I was conviced Pilates could do nothing for a person. Was I wrong! Not only have I lost inches and shaped up my body, I have tons more energy and my asthma has done a complete turnaround. This particular tape mixes Pilates and Cardio-Aerobics. Tracey makes you work but the results are worth it. This is one of the more active and physical from the 20/20 series but highly effective.

5 stars Guess I'm in the minority
I really like this DVD. However, I bought this after it (and the Cardio Bootcamp DVD) had been out for a while, so I knew there would be some overlap. I opted to get Jab Kick and Burn and this DVD instead of Cardio Bootcamp. (There is no overlap between this and Jab Kick and Burn.) Just want to add that I sympathize with those who have "extra" footage of something they already own- nothing is more annoying than spending your hard-earned dollars on the same thing twice!

As for the workouts themselves, I think they're a great mix. The first workout is more interval style. After a warmup with some yoga and modern dance moves as well as some jabs and punches, we move onto a brief Pilates Standing Sculpting Series using light weights. We hit biceps, triceps, shoulders, back and chest. You are in zero danger of building large muscles or significantly upping your strength, but as with almost all Pilates exercises, it helps you work your powerhouse (as well as target some of your extremities). Then onto punches, kicks and jacks. I didn't take detailed notes, but there were more punches and gallops than kicks.

The next workout has no weights and has more calisthenics: pushups, jacks, lunges, squats and imaginary jump-rope drills. There are some areas of noticeable choreography, but this felt even less dancy than the first workout (and overall, this tape was less dancy than Jab Kick and Burn), so even the choreography-challenged (like myself) won't suffer too much here. However, the impact and lunges are probably going to make your knees talk if they are already so inclined.

The cooldowns focus on Flexibility and Core Strength (a modified Pilates mat workout). I have a regular Pilates and Yoga practice, so I don't do these. Tracey Mallet- it seems like you love her or hate her. I really enjoy her energy, which seems appropriate for a high-intensity cardio workout. But if you didn't like her before, you won't like her better now.

Overall, these are well-done cardio workouts for people who like short bursts of kickboxing and calisthenics tied together with a little dance sensibility. But if you're a very serious kickboxing or "boot camp" enthusiast, these may not be your cup of tea.

1 stars Same segment as Cardio Boot Camp!
FYI... If you have the Cardio Boot Camp dvd, you already have 50% of the workout on Cardio Kick. The first of the 2-20 minute segments is hardly heart pumping. The second segment is THE first segment on Cardio Boot Camp. I feel totally ripped off.

3 stars good for beginners
Hope you have lots of room in your living room. I had a bit of trouble with the second 20 minute video. You need a bit more space cause they do steps going right to left. They aren't hard, just I have a small space to work out in. She is energetic, but I found that you're just getting your heart rate up and they start to do the cool down. I also found that the cool down moves would be difficult for someone who just got over an injury or is overweight. So, buyer beware on this one.
