Customer Reviews
Two boys' review: Play in a slick 3D comic book
Just like in Ultimate Spider-Man you are playing in Mark Bagley's comic book world, a 3D environment that feels as though you're jumping in and out of the pages and panels of a comic book.
You play half the game as Spider-Man and the other half as the Green Goblin. You fight gang members and save New Yorkers caught in the action. The fighting gets monotonous though and older kids are going to get tired soon. Younger players will mind it as much but don't expect them to reach for this game so quickly a month after you buy it.
As a parent, the minigames were frustrating. The one involving the locks requires you to lift an increasing number of tumblers into place. Each tumbler shakes and falls if left in place too long. My kids often would ask me to help them get past these minigames.
The side-scrolling levels are easy to follow but they look a lot better than you'd expect due to the 3D and comic book style. Younger kids will appreciate the music and sound effects that combine to really take you into Spider-Man's universe.
The game is shorter than other adventure titles on the Nintendo DS but rates about average for the beat-'em-up superhero games available.

2x the fun with spiderman and green goblin
This game is a challenging game waiting for expert gamers to buy it. It is a lot of fun and it is not very easy. It is a lot of fun because you get to play as spiderman and the green goblin. The only negative thing I would say about it is it is a little too challenging. Imagine being at the first boss in this game, after completing 1 lv. with spiderman and 1 lv. with the green goblin. The next level is fighting the green goblin with spiderman and the green goblin uses the cheapest moves known to video games!!!! Other than that it is a very good game waiting for people to buy it!!!

Slightly above average beat 'em up with Spidey
Spider-Man and beat 'em up's go hand in hand, especially on portable systems. Spider-Man: Battle for New York for the DS is a slightly above average beat 'em up featuring Marvel's resident wall-crawler, and also allows you to play as Spidey's nemesis, the Green Goblin. While playing as both characters, you both aim to save and destroy the city, while avoiding various enemies and hazards. The basics of the game are the typical kind you'd find in a portable beat 'em up, but the game looks so good that you'll hardly notice or care. Battle for NY nicely utilizes the DS' ability for 3-D graphics and cell-shaded animation effects surprisingly well (you may recall the Spider-Man 2 movie tie in game did as well when the system launched) and the game controls quite good as well. There are a few character based mini-games as well that use the touch screen, and the game isn't really any better or worse with or without them. What really hurts Battle for NY is that the game is incredibly short. There's no real bonuses to unlock either or anything to offer some replayability, and there's no Wi-Fi or multiplayer compatibility (which would have been sweet). That aside, Spider-Man: Battle for New York isn't a bad game whatsoever, and is definitely worth checking out, but it could have been much, much better.

AWESOME GAME
Spider man Battle For New York is awesome. You play as Spider-man and the Green Goblin. It is fun to fight the other marvel characters to I will only tell you one of them and it is Silver Sable. It took me half an hour to remember the controls but then I got used to it. The touch screen mini games are also cool like when you draw the rest of a web. Spider man fans or ultimate spidey fans should get this. If you want to borrow your friends before you buy thats fine but BUY THIS GAME.

EXTREMELY frustrating and too hard...
well i'm about ten minutes in or so and might never pick this game up again. after a couple of freebie get-acquainted-with-spidey-and-the-goblin missions, you start off as spider-man fighting the green goblin on a bridge. the problem? it's way way way way way too hard. i'm a solid gamer, and if i have to restart something two dozen or more times in a row because i keep getting cheaply beaten by an enemy: who isn't power restricted as you are in terms of energy, who does way more damage than you, who shrugs off damage better than you do, and who 9/10ths of the time or more doesn't get injured by police gunfire as you are...well that's just b.s.
it would be one thing if this was the last boss battle of the game, but 10 minutes in and this crap is hard to swallow. before this fight it seemed like an averagely fun ds game with pretty good graphics.
