Product Description:

With so many other hassles to worry about, a gate should be worry-free and easy. Using the simplicity-by-design approach, the Evenflo SimpleStep pressure gate makes cordoning off stairways and rooms easy as cake. The pressure-mounted gate takes 20 minutes to install with no tools needed and is much easier than its wall-anchored counterparts. Once you install the gate, the most difficult part is over. The walk through door employs a squeeze, slide, and swing action that can be done with one hand. The red/green gate indicator tells you when the gate is properly locked. Be sure to measure your doorways before purchasing--the Evenflo gate is made for either 29-inch or 39.5-inch (with the included extension panel) openings, and the pressure mounts give you a tiny bit of slack. The Evenflo SimpleStep pressure gate is 30.5 inches in height, and the manufacturer recommended age use for children is six months to two years. --Scott Teal

3 stars Be careful!
When I first installed the gate, the pressure from the gate was too intense and punched a hole in my wall! Make sure that you install on a solid stud, or wall surface. The gate works decently for me now, but I had to purchase 4 square pieces of metal and put them between my wall and each of the pressure points on the gate. This seemed to disburse some of the pressure and prevent holes.

4 stars Oh Baby! What a Gate!
Love this gate, do wish it had addition sides for purchase, so I could use it in other areas.

Love the fact that it's a pressure gate, so no holes in the wall.
Though you must have either walls, or square banister rails that aline evenly for it to work properly.

Locking feature is difficult for children to open, but not for adults. As far as baby/pet gates do it is also one of the more attractive. Sturdy metal throughout.

5 stars gets the job done
Just got 2 of these and I am very happy.
I went to the local home depot and got a few 2x4 wooden planks and installed them on the wall where the gate is. Di that to avoid the pressure mounts going into the hard walls.
The gate is easy to open and close (but not for my 3 year old), it is stable and solid. I was a little worried about tripping over the lower bar but that's not an issue as it is only 1/2 an inch (or less) high.

5 stars Good Product overall
I bought this gate for my dogs, in order to keep them separated while I am out. I read all the reviews first, and I was a bit concerned it would be hard to open and it may not be worth buying. The door may be a little uneasy to open, but this is the point, so whatever or whoever you do not want to open does not do it easily. You have to press the button and slide it a bit to open, and I never found much problem doing so (if you do, maybe while assembling, you did put too much pressure and make the door way too close to the gate)

My door is a little small, though, and the gate makes it even narrower. So, accidents bumping into the metal edges were frequent in the beggining (I guess this is more my fault than the product`s).

It is better (in my opinion) than the pedal (foot) one (i used it for a while), because it is set agains the wall, and the pressure keeps the door closed and adjusted. The pedal one always came out, because it doesnt have such system.

Dont know if it would be that great for baby's parents, but I love it for my pooches.

3 stars Sturdy, but not always easy to open!
After much research and reading many reviews, my husband and I bought 2 of these gates (for our kitchen doorway and the bottom of our stairs), and we are a bit disappointed. Yes, the gate is easy to install, and it works beautifully with our old-fashioned carved wookwork because it adjusts in all four corners. Yes, it is sturdy as can be, and I never worry when my 9 month old crawls over to it, pulls on it to stand and starts rattling it like a gorilla trying to escape its cage. However, opening the gate isn't always easy. You have to press 2 buttons (one on each side of the handle), and slide it back before the gate will swing (and you can swing it in or out). Many times I have pressed the buttons and struggled with sliding it while holding my daughter. I then have to bend down and use both hands to slide it. When it does open, it's a bit noisy. It makes a metal ping when you release the buttons/handle upon opening and closing it. I also don't like how thick the bottom bar is. It sits on the floor, but sticks up 1 1/2 inches. I'm always afraid I'm going to trip over it, or worse yet, that my mother-in-law will trip, especially with the gate at the bottom of my stairs (it is awkward footing). I wish they had a flatter bottom bar, or at least a curved one, or a rubber curved piece that fit over the bar... just something that didn't catch my foot so easily.
We also have 2 dogs -- one is part husky and shepherd (about 55 lbs.), and the other is a beagle mix (about 20 lbs.). The gate works well for them too, even when the larger dog stands up with her front paws on it. They both used to climb the cheap gate we got for them (before having the baby).
