Customer Reviews
Mantis does not back their product (at least through Amazon)
We looked into this product for quite a while and received the DVD from them. Everywhere you look they advertise their 1 year trial and 100% satisfaction guarantee. After a few months of trying to use this awful piece of equipment (failed to start, fuel problems, choke problems, getting jammed with all kinds of things every few minutes) we decided it was not for us and we were not satisfied. We contacted Mantis and they said they would not take it back that we had to go through Amazon. Amazon's only offers a 30 day still in box return. Mantis says Amazon is not a registered dealer of the product. This is not resolved yet, but I highly recommend you DO NOT BUY this product.

Excellent small tiller
We've owned our mantis tiller for at least 10 years and are well pleased with it. We also own a larger tiller which we use for most of the ground breaking and between row tilling of our quarter acre garden. We usually end up with some rows too narrow though and will use the mantis there. Also, when viney plants (squash etc.) make tilling between rows impossible (because the plants grow into other rows) with the large tiller, we switch to the mantis where we can pick it up and move it around the viney plants. We also have found the mantis excellent for digging holes to plant trees etc. It will easily dig down 8" or so and we then scoop out the loose dirt with a shovel. We can then go down ANOTHER 8" with the mantis, again remove the dirt and repeat the cycle for as deep as we need to go. The mantis starts fairly easy (usually on 3-4 pulls). The tines are guaranteed for a life time, and after over 10 years use we are still on our original set of tines. Prior to buying the mantis, we owned another small tiller (Ryan brand) which did not compare well to the mantis. It could not break up hard soil as the tines dug in the forward direction and would just bounce on top of hard ground. The Mantis tines move forward, but in use the diller is pulled backwards which forces it to dig in and break up hard soil. The tines are thinner on the mantis causing them to cut the soil rather than bounce on top. We highly recommend this product.

My husband's favorite Father's Day present ever!
I gave my husband the Mantis 2-cycle Tiller/Cultivator for Father's Day this year. I had seen a commercial years ago for the Mantis Tiller. I wanted one for so long. Well, finally I thought, "My husband needs help with our yard, maybe this can do the trick" So I ordered the Mantis from Amazon. When he opened the package he said, "Oh, boy, parts to put together!" I told him that I thought he would like it and he proceeded to put it together. It didn't take very long. He said thanks and put it outside. Well, I thought to myself, "I guess I was wrong, he didn't like it" Well, the next weekend he got going on the back yard, tilling. He was so jazzed with the Mantis cutting into the hard ground and the way it ripped through the weeds, he said, "Thanks, honey, I love it!" Whew! I knew it would take time to get him happy about a Father's Day gift, no more ties or shirts...he is so happy with the Mantis' power and ability to cut through what we had to offer it. Thanks so much for offering it and making a wonderful product! Helen and Dennis Toevs, California

Even better than my 1992 model
This is my second Mantis Tiller. The first one served me well for 16 years before my careless failure to replace the grease seals caused the worm gear to fail. It does everything the TV ads say it will do and does it all well. What the ads don't tell you is that it takes practice and common sense to use it effectively. After the first day of use I wanted to send it back (my original model) after a week I wouldn't have traded my car for it. Watch the video, read the manual and practice. The kickstand is a great feature as are the folding handlebars. Neither of these were available 16 years ago. (Wish I had invented them) The tine detangler is also a real help. When breaking new ground or cutting through thick weeds or grass you will need to do a lot of detangling. Even big tillers have this problem with roots so buying a giant front-tine tiller will delay the problem because of its power, but won't solve it. I have also found customer service to be extremely knowledgeable and helpful when I have had issues or questions about the tiller. Amazon's price is even better than buying direct from Mantis and there is free shipping. How do they do it? This is a great and durable product at a wonderful price.
