Lasts so long, you will never 'need' to replace it.
I've been wearing my Pearl Izumi vest for about a decade now. It hasn't stretched, faded, frayed, or even developed nasty stains from either the sweat pouring out of me or the multitude of filth that splashed on it over the thousands of miles I've worn it both in Japan and the United States. The logo hasn't even worn off.

I've probably only washed it maybe 8 times, and most of those only in the last few years. Except for not putting it in the dryer, I haven't been the least bit careful about it either. I've thrown it in with regular laundry, with softener, and it was fine--though best to wash all your cycling clothing separately, in cold water, with laundry detergent only.

It's increadibly compact. Mine fits into its own stuff pocket that's about the size of a deck of cards, and I'm not careful about it--I just stuff it in there or roll it up and stick it in a pocket when I don't need it. It actually takes up less space than my arm warmers--which are also Pearl Izumi.

In fact, the only reason I'm contemplating buying a new one is because the one I have has an entirely mesh back and I want another one that protects me from the rain and wind on my back as well as it does my front. That and the fact that this one has a back pocket--thoguh the one I have is easy enough to pull up over my regular jersey pockets and pull back down when I'm done.

It's form fitting without being tight or constrictive, and it stays in place nicely while riding. All the Pearl Izumi clothing I have--which is a considerable amount--fits well and stays in place.

The collar is high enough and provides excellent protection from wind that might blow right down your front in other brands of vests and jackets--particularly ones not made for cycling.

BOTTOM LINE: You get more than your money's worth out of this item, and probably more.

Especially as I see older riders in ancient stretched and worn cycling clothing on club rides, I know that it's worth it to spend money on this level of quality which will likely outlast you and look good doing it.
