Product Description: This self-cleaning litter box eliminates most odors while keeping the litter pleasingly fresh for tabby. It's ingenious in design: a cat entering the box triggers a sensor; the sensor sets a timer that counts off 10 minutes; then a rake runs through the litter, scooping out clumps and depositing them in a plastic container at the box's end; the container is automatically sealed until the next cat visit, when the raking cycle opens the container for another deposit. (Four reusable/disposable containers are included.) The litter box can be plugged into a wall socket (AC adapter included) or operated on eight D-cell batteries (not included). For safety, the rake stops and reverses at the slightest touch if an object gets behind the rake while it's returning to its home position. If a cat re-enters the box before the initial 10 minutes have elapsed, the timer automatically resets. The litter box is made of hard plastic and measures 23-1/2 inches long, 16-1/2 inches wide, and 8-1/2 inches high. For proper operation, it requires premium clumping litter but does not need as much as a nonautomated litter box of the same size. For cleaning, the litter tray can be detached. Instructions for acclimating a cat to the box are included. --Fred Brack

Customer Reviews
In need of product quality improvement
When functioning properly, this is a great product, however and unfortunately, the Litter Maids have mechanical/electrical flaws. Over the past 4 to 5 years, I have bought several Litter Maids (have several Kitties) and five of the units have failed. Of the last two I purchased (within the last 4 weeks) one of these has already failed. The rake will not go into park...will not stop. Thus the unit is of no use. These units have been on the market for several years. Surely they could have made the necessary quality improvements by now. Don Johnson

LITTERMAID LM500 AUTO LITTER BOX
THERE IS NO PROBLEM WITH SELLER. RECEIVED THE PRODUCT PROMPTLY AND IN GOOD CONDITION. THE MANUFACTURER, LITTER MAID, NEEDS TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF THEIR PRODUCTS. OVER THE YEARS I HAVE OWNED 4 OR 5 LITTERMAID LITTER BOXES. WITH 3 AND 4 CATS THE LITTERBOXES ONLY LAST ABOUT 3 TO 5 YEARS. I HAD THIS BOX LESS THAN A WEEK AND THE RAKE SEPERATED FROM THE ITS FRAME. APPARENTLY, LITTERMAID IS MAKING THE MECHANISM SO YOU CAN SEPERATE THE RAKE FROM ITS FRAME IN ORDER TO CLEAN IT MORE EASILY, BUT NOT A GOOD IDEA. THE RAKE IS NOT AS STRONG AS USED TO BE EITHER.
I REATTACHED THE RAKE BACK TO ITS FRAME WITH PLASTIC TIES AND IT IS WORKING FINE, BUT I AM GOING TO LOOK INTO OTHER BRANDS OF AUTOMATIC LITTER BOXES.

Once A Year
When I decided to have another feline companion, it was conditional on having a self cleaning litter box.
Three years later, and 2 Litter boxes later.... My Litter Mate Plus' life expectancy doesn't add up.
The switch has gone out again.

A Maid that works for you
I was given the Liter Maid as a gift and liked it so well that, when it wore out, I wanted to be assured that I get the same one again. My cat likes it and so do I.

Once a week chore
We had a another littermaid box for 5 years before it's moter died out. After looking at the options we decided to get another one. It's the most hastle free box on the market. We like that we only have to take care of the box once a week at most. Going on vacation is easy since we don't worry about that. It is expensive if you chose to use new waste trays each time you change the box but we just dump them and reuse it for at least a month. Sometimes our older box would get stuck while removing waste but if you make sure to clear the litter from the track on the side there isn't a problem. It is noisey when it clears out the clumps. Despite any complaints we have with the product there isn't another litter box that beats the easiness and cleanliness of this one.
