cats won't use box with out it
My cats insist on the hood for use. the entire product could not work in my household without it

Great Addition to Scoop Free, but a Little Low
This is a great accessory to the Scoop Free Self-Cleaning litter box. It has pegs that fit right into holes on the litter box, and it is very secure. The plastic is sturdy, and my cats haven't knocked it off at all.

It really helps in keeping the litter in the box. Sure, your kitty is going to bring a little out with him, but not nearly as much as he could scatter when he's digging around.

My only problem is that the hood seems a little low for larger cats. I have a great big, 20 lb male who is very tall. He has to stoop down very low to get comfortable in there to do his business, and sometimes he ends up "depositing" behind the rake. Not a big deal, cause he's a pretty easy going cat, but I think they could make this hood taller.

Other than that, love it.

No More Kicked Out Litter
My male cat loves to kick litter and this hood has stopped the litter from going all over the room. Other hooded litter boxes were too short and he wouldn't use them because he couldn't kick enough. This one is nice and tall and he can see through it so he doesn't feel hemmed in. No more problems! I rarely have to clean up litter from around the box; the hood does a great job keeping all the litter in the box. Overall, we are very pleased with the litterbox. Very little odor, no more scooping, and a cartridge lasts around 24 days.

Might have been great if my cats would use it....
I bought this product over a year ago. I loved the idea of not having to clean the litter box regularly. I've had a Littermaid in the past where the rake got all disgusting so we stopped using it. This sounded like a great idea, and the reviews on Amazon were so positive that I thought I would give it a try. My cats are the sweetest, most docile cats I've ever owned (I've had many cats all my life), so I never thought it would be difficult to get them acclimated. When it got here, I followed the instruction to put the Scoop Free next to their regular litter box that contained Fresh Step clumping litter. I put some Fresh Step litter in the Scoop Free. I didn't clean their regular litter box to encourage my 2 cats to use the new one. Well, one of our cats used the Scoop Free a couple of times. However, he would still prefer to use the old box even when it was filled to the brim with clumps. The other cat, however, refused to use the Scoop Free box. She was also upset that her old litter box was so dirty. She protested by starting to poop on the laundry room floor. After trying various ways to encourage her to use the Scoop Free over a couple months, I gave up. Neither were using it anyway. I was tired of cleaning cat poop from the floor, especially since we have 2 small children. Fast forward a year, my cat who started pooping on the floor took a liking to it. After going back to her usual litter box, she still has not stopped pooping on the floor. She never would have picked up this habit if it wasn't for me trying to get her to use the Scoop Free. Well, I wouldn't say never, but she's already 10 and had never pooped on the floor in her life. Now, I am at war with her trying to figure out ways to encourage her to poop in the litter box with regular litter. I thought I was winning by moving the litter box out of the laundry room to another location. It worked for more than a week, but yesterday and today, she has decided to poop on the floor next to the litter box again. Sigh...

Must-Have Accessory
If you have one of those cats that likes to pee up the side of the litter box, this hood is a must-have. The Scoop Free is great, but it is relatively shallow. I bought the hood and haven't had any problems.
