Quite Possibly My Favorite Album Of All Time By My Favorite Song Writer!
After purchasing Songs In The Key Of Life, and falling deeply in love with it, I decided to get Innervisions. I was shocked by how many songs I've heard off this before, and shocked at the fact that I didn't own this sooner. Better late than never. I found myself listening to this more and more. Even more than Songs In The Key Of Life. I later decided to get this on vinyl, and once I did, I found myself listening to it on a daily basis. If you have a good sound system, a clean phonograph player, and this album in good condition, you can't go wrong. It sounds alot warmer, smoother, and intimate on vinyl. What amazes me about this album is that Stevie wrote and sang the lyrics, orchastrated, and arranged all the music, and played drumms and keyes on every track. His eyesight is impaired, and yet he can craft music as brilliant as this. From start to finish the album stands tall, it doesn't slip even the slightest. There's people that'll complain that some of his songs can be too mellow. My response to that is; pay attention to the lyrics. If there's romantic lyrics he wrote for his wife; it's only right to have mellow, soothing music to go with them. I personally like the fact that he provides different tempo'd songs. There's a wider range of music, instead of the same song over and over.

ESCUCHAD ESTE ALBUM, ESTA AUTÉNTICA MARAVILLA, ESTA OBRA MAESTRA, SUBLIME !!! ... y entonces sabreis de verdad quien es este señor STEVIE WONDER !!!

The musical genius nails it!
One of the greatest albums ever to combine societal anguish and musical artistry, Innervisions is a masterpiece even by Stevie Wonder's lofty standards. It's a collection of flawless soundscapes and lyrical poetry. Like Bob Dylan's best work, this is music that is both timeless and topical, an effortless evocation of a particularly difficult moment in American history that nonetheless reaches across every imaginable generation gap and speaks to modern ears with crystal clarity. There are plenty of reasons for that, the most important one being that great music never becomes dated. Stevie's lush, funky, intensely melodic constructions belong to eternity. Witness the unstoppable monster that is "Living For The City," with its snarling keyboards and lurching rhythmic texture and the fire and brimstone dynamics of Wonder's vocals. It freaking smokes! And then there's the otherworldly and absolutely gorgeous "Visions," with its hazy, bewitching melodies and aching vocals. And then you've got sly stompers like "He's Misstra Know It All" (a devastating slam on Richard Nixon) and the hyper-infectious "Don't You Worry `Bout A Thing." "Too High" is smarter-(and cooler)-than-average soul funk, and "Golden Lady" is just plain golden. No complaints about this one- it's a flat out masterpiece.

1973 was one of the greatest years in music. Many of the worlds greatest albums were released that year and Innervisions is with out question one of those albums. Innervisions is on par with Talking Book, and Songs In The Key Of Life, both of which are concidered his two strongest albums with this as a close third. I Personally feel that this is stronger then Songs In The Key Of Life, far better in fact.

The album seems to loosly follow a pattern of a funk driven grooved out song followed by a more mellow track, this is especially true on the first half of the album. I must say that I do not like the albums opener, 'Too High' the lyrics seem childish for someone of Wonders stature as a song writer. The music however is fantastic. 'Visions' has the albums best lyrics but lacks musicaly. The total packages on the album are 'Living For The City' which is easily his all time best, 'Higher Ground' is another classic though I prefer the Chili Pepper remake. 'Jesus Children' is a fantastic track vocaly, music wise, and lyricaly. 'Don't You Worry Bout A Thing' was another minor hit and while it can be self indulgent at times it's still pretty good.

Innervisions may not be the best Stevie Wonder album but it is close. If your looking for something besides what you hear on the radio then this is a good place to start along side Talking Book, and Songs In The Key Of Life.
