Customer Reviews

4 stars I have to confess a fondness for this movie
Yes, it is goofy. Yes it is made by the same guy who made the pseudo-Conan THE SWORD AND THE SORCERER. Still, it's entertaining. Actually, I think it is actually better than the original (how did Wes Craven get hooked into that one?). True, you do have the two obnxious kids and Swamp Thing whacking away on creatures with big rubbery heads. Louis Jourdan returns as Arcane (didn't he literally loose his head in the first one), Sarah Douglas as an evil assistant and Heather Locklear as the eye-candy love interest for Swampy (this time completely played by Dick Durock)and it opens with credits from the comic covers to CCR's "Born on the Bayou".

4 stars Old Times...
I remember watching this film as a kid. It is nostalgic to me now. Not the greatest of movies, but the younger generation likes it. My younger brother sure does.

4 stars Swamp Thing is Back
This movie brings me back to when I was growing up and used to watch the show Swamp Thing. It tracks with the show. I like the old memories that it brings.

4 stars "I got you now Mr. Potato-Head!"
This is B-Movie greatness! Adventure, rubber suits, funny one-liners, it's all here. This is a review of the OOP Image release.

"The Return of Swamp Thing" is 10 times more entertaining than the first and here's a list of 10 reasons why:

10) Heather Locklear: Gentleman prefer blondes, nuff said.

9) The fight scenes are many, but varied which is cool.

8) The kids put in a great comedic performance.

7) Character development: each character truly has their own voice and a specific scene to remember them by, kudos to the screenwriters.

6) "Gun": The psychotic head of security has the best lines in the movie like "Turn him into guacamole" and "I got you now Mr. Potato-Head!"

5) The creatures: The evil monsters are classic sci-fi models that add the campy flare with a touch of realism.

4) The bath tub scene: After being blown up, Swamp Thing sneeks into Arcane's base via the plumbing. At least they showed one of Swamp Thing's powers, besides being able to punch people.

3) The war wounds scene: Security guards Gun and Poinsettia compare their various scars and tell where/when they got them. Very memorable.

2) Dr. Arcane: Every good movie needs a villain and Louis Jourdan puts in a great performance as he performs all his evil deeds with psychotic calmness and humor.

1) The Swamp Thing costume doesn't look like a melted plastic Green Army Man toy. That's right, there's actually some resemblance to the comic!

Overall this is a fun movie with plenty of action and comedy. It used to be shown in it's entirety on TV so it's fun for everyone.

2 stars Human / Vegetable Romance...
OK, this one is terrible if you're a jaded adult. I admit I hated it utterly. However, it's a kid movie. I mean, there's only one "bad" word in the whole movie, zero blood, no nudity, insufferable characters, lots of gunfire / explosions, and 80s TV-movie production values. SWAMP THING himself is a walking compost heap w/ a heart of mold... er, gold. He battles a leach-man and some hicks in order to save two intensely annoying brats and Abigail (Heather Locklear) from certain doom. Abby's step-dad is none other than Dr. Arcane (Louis Jordan), sociopathic megalomaniac and mad scientist. Arcane's looking for a way to reverse the aging process, apparently by turning people into mutated freakazoids! I found this movie tedious and dumb, but I know I'd have loved it as a kid. Swampy even shows Abby some good ol' fashioned swamp-love! Hallucinegenic seedpods anyone?? So, shift yer brain into neutral and coast through this one!
