My cat LOVES it!
Feeling a bit guilty for having kids and putting most of the cat's toys away - and for spending less time with him since the kids came along - and going to work all day & leaving him home alone...(the list goes on)...I decided it was time to purchase a toy that didn't need me there for the cat to play with it.

I purchased this video, Feathers For Felines - Special Edition by Bill Hayward, along with Kitty Safari 2, after much consideration of many cat videos. It was a wise choice!

I have the option to "auto repeat" on my VCR. I put the tape in & set it to auto repeat - put a stool in front of the TV - and sat back & watched. My cat heard the birds and squirrels and immediately wanted to know where they were! He stalked the TV for a bit, then sat down in front of it yet sort of hiding behind the stool, as if to spy on the animals. Eventually he was on the stool and 'after' all the animals! A paw batting here & there, a look off the side of the TV as if to see where they went when they flew/ran off screen, and finally a content kitty curled up just right so that he can watch TV.

I left it on all day while at work and came home to find him in that same place by the TV, still watching. Eventually I had to turn the video off (my husband just didn't find it as entertaining as the cat did) and kitty curled up to take a nap. That's the best night of sleep I think he's gotten in a long time! (he's 15-16 years old) I think the video kept him up all day!

Anyway - kitty gives it 2 ears straight up, 4 paws prepared & ready to pounce, and whiskers forward! A definate must have for the cat lover!

29 cats can't be wrong!!
Approximately 29 or our 41 rescue felines give Bill Hayward's efforts at least a B+ in every respect. The "special edition" has actually become a favorite for the inclusion of the squirrels and butterflies- different critters for different cats! These films are geared for the cats, not for us- and you should introduce the film to your pet by just popping it into the player- and let it play. We have all the versions now- and when I left for work today, I left about 16 cats watching with intense interest on two different TV's! You'll get a charge out of watching THEM. This is a great cat amusement toy, a super "perk" for cats who might be recuperating or ill, and a tremendous gift for the CATAHOLIC in YOUR life. (Trust me- we ALL know one or two!!) >^..^< PAWS UP!!

Another Boring Video for Cats...Or Is It???
My baboonish spouse Bessie has about 25 of these ridiculous video tapes for her terror-cat, al-Bobo! Almost all of these "films" follow the same tried-and-true formula of annoying music, shaky video (drunk camera girl?), and REAL LIVE animals making REAL LIVE animal sounds. This particular video--"Feathers for Felines" is no different although the promo on the cover had me hoping for a bit more with its promise of animal instinct arousal and safe indoor fun. Sadly, I was disappointed. As was Bessie's silly siamese.

The quality is decent (better than average), but al-Bobo was only rarely fooled enough to jump at the flat screen or screech at the REAL LIVE sounds of nature. He did manage to partially smack his puny skull on the lower left corner of the television when a small swift bird flashed across the screen in a flitting moment of realism (although I must confess, he was aided by a gentle push from this bored viewer). All in all, par for the course for this genre.
