In addition to breaking down his tunes for you, you'll also see Mark in performance with a band, playing just as he would in a Texas-style fiddle contest. A rare treat for all fans of fiddle music! Customer Reviews

4 stars An intimate lesson with the world's greatest fiddler
The only reason I'm giving this video 4 stars instead of 5 is the poor quality of the video seeing as how it was taped 20 years ago. O'Connor isn't the most eloquent speaker in the world, but he does an adequate job of explaining how he does what he does in these three tunes ... Wild Fiddler's Rag, Skater's Waltz, and Soppin' the Gravy. Before each tune you get to see him play it along with a guitar and a bass as it would be played in a competition setting. During the teaching portion of the tape there's an inset on the right of the screen showing his left hand close up to help you follow his fingering and vibrato. Mark also throws in a few pointers about things to consider when participating in a fiddling contest. He was around 22 at the time of this taping, so this would have occurred around the time he retired from competition and began his career as a session fiddler in Nashville. If you're into fiddling this is a great video if for no other reason than the opportunity to watch the world's greatest fiddler in his prime. I wonder when Homespun is going to talk him into doing a new tape covering his caprices or other recent works? I'd sure buy it.
