Pangai Noon Karate Vol III
I was given this video for Christmas, and as so often happens, I didn't get round to opening it for a while. When I did, I felt the urge to call the friend who had given it to me to thank her not just for her kindness but also for the care with which she had selected the gift. I had never heard of this teacher before (Shinyu Gushi) even though I have been involved in karate for more than ten years and was amazed when I saw his technique. A little research uncovered the fact that he is one of the top rated teachers in the world and only gives private instruction to high level teachers (3rd dan and above) which explains his low profile. The video is superb. The production quality is better than a lot of programs you see on network TV, and the action is authentic but dynamic. I subsequently saw a review in a martial arts magazine I bought in Borders and they also raved about the whole series and the teacher. Receiving this as a gift made up for some of the really bad (almost all of them) martial arts videos that I have wasted my own money on in the past!
