Advanced forms of basic techniques + Matsubayashi-Ryu Kata

The video quality is very good and the photography and editing are excellent as usual from Tsunami. The usual Tsunami-Sells "pictoric" introduction is quite relevant and envelops the video nicely. However I personally think the "classical" music doesn't quite "fit" the contents of the video.

When I begun Karate my Sensei once said: "There are no fancy secret techniques in Karate: just hard work! The techniques you practice now are the same as those of the great masters: only they perform them closer to perfection.".
The karate techniques analized in the first half of the video are basic "tsuki" and "uke" which are the very base of every karate curriculum. Toshihiro Oshiro Sensei reveals small but decisive technical details in order to make those techniques faster, more powerfull and effective. The crucial traditional hip-shoulder motion which is so overlooked even by seasoned karatekas is clearly demonstrated.
Many Dan-ranking karatekas already have some of this knowledge, painstakingly aquired throughout many years of practice and contact with many high-ranking Sensei. But until now it was almost impossible to find it recorded all in one place in book or video.
A karateka must have a reasonable level of proficiency to fully appreciate and profit from this video. I wouldn't recommend it to beginners. it would only confuse them and make things harder to their live instructors. Before learning to run one must first learn to walk!

The last half of the video covers Kata: the Naihanchin Shodan, the five Pinan and the Wankan (Matsukaze) kata. These are the Matsubayashi-Ryu versions and should be considered as such by karatekas of other styles. However valuable lessons can be taken by all by watching the powerfull dinamic performance of Toshihiro Oshiro Sensei quite different from the heavy mechanical performances found in many dojo, videos and competition grounds nowadays.

A Masterpiece
Both Volume 1 & 2 are excellent productions with very good content. Oshiro Sensei is one of the best! I am amazed that with his knowledge, speed, ability, and power, that he does not have one of the largest Shorin Ryu organizations in America. If I trained in Shorin Ryu, this would be my teacher. GREAT JOB TSUNAMI, I sincerely hope you produce more videos featuring Oshiro Sensei.

Tsunami continues to be the best
Once again, Tsunami Video proves why they are the top quality producers of martial arts video. If you want to see what real karate is and how real masters perform and teach it, this is a must see. Oshiro Sensei is a master who learned through a direct lineage of true karate masters. His demonstrations are powerful and his instruction is superb. Uchinadi and Uchinadi vol. 2 both provide a clear and in depth view of the fighting art that made Okinawa famous. No movie acrobatics or gymnastic stunts. Just real, hard nosed, functional karate by one of the best in the world. I hope Tsunami Productions keeps providing such valuable resources for a long time to come so that the true art of real karate will survive.

The highest quality of it's genre!
This video is of the highest quality, both in content and production value. As a Karate teacher of 27 years experience, it is a pleasure to view such a fine video as this. Toshihiro Oshiro is a true master, and all serious martial artists would do well to study his technique. He explains things clearly, and shows how even basic techniques can be improved upon in awesome ways. A must have for your martial arts library.
