Customer Reviews
the events are awsome and 1998 was their year but.....
why did they release these tapes in the worst quality possible.....EP tape speed. downright dumb & stupid idea. the quality control on these tapes suck. big line crawling & serious vcr tracking control problems(buzzing noises)(bought this set brand new sealed and immediateally had these problems with each tape). 3 good vcrs and you think one will play the tapes correctly. think again. they did the same EP speed garbage with the wrestlemania collection & wrestlemania legacy vhs boxed sets they released years ago. pathetic. best find the original SP speed releases that came out cause this set sucks other than it is and will probrabally be the only way to get these releases without all that hideous blurring, music changing, censoring, & editing the wwe will be doing to all these future re-releases. these are supposed to be your classics, collections, & legacy tapes, your crowning achivements and you treat your tapes(2/3 less tape) and us like this so you can save money. billion dollar company right. way to go on these tapes geniuses. stupid.

1998 was a very good year
Some times people just start getting on a roll and keep it. 1998 was one of theose years for the WWE (or WWF back then). I think I saw one event on PPV, and yet I own all five of the "majors" from 1998. Why? Because each of the events (along with many of the In Your Houses) got people interested in wrestling. And although WCW was at their height at the time, non of their PPV's was worth watching, let alone keeping. Rumble - Great Rumble match, IC title match and World title match. 'Mania - Good main event, solid overall WM. Not the best one ever (WM III holds that distinction) but good from beginning to end. KOTR - Perhaps the weakest of the five, despite having the Match of the Year ('Taker-Mankind). The first two hours of the event are dry (the tournament isn't really a big factor at this one) but the last two matches make up for it. SS - The Garden plays host to one of the better 'Slams. Crowd was into the event the whole night. Survivor Series - I liked the whole title tournament and remember the build up for the event. Interesting how the screw job at the '97 event was used again here. 1998 was a great year and these five videos capture the biggest events of the year (Austin becomes contender, then champion, Hell in a Cell, Rock becomes champion, The Corportation is formed). It's a must have.

I'll tell you why this gets one star
For being in a boxed set. Was it necessary to ruin each cover by putting that marble looking frame around the cover?

CLASSICS
THE CLASSIC 5 OF 1998 IS TRULY A CLASSIC. WITH SOME OF THE MOST HARDCORE MATCHES EVER. INCLUDING A CASKET MATCH, DUMPSTER, LADDEER, AND THE IMPHIMOUS HELL IN A CELL.ROYAL RUMBLE- **** STARS. IT WAS A GREAT EVENT BUT SOME MATCHES DID NOT DELIVER. THE MATCHES THAT DID WERE THE RUMBLE ITSELF, THE CASKET MATCH FOR THE WWF TITLE SHAWN MICHAELS VS. UNDERTKAER. IC TITLE SHAMROCK VS.THE ROCK. WRESTLEMANIA XIV-*****. THE BEST EVENT OF THE YEAR. THIS WAS AN EXCELLENT EVENT. SOME GREAT MATCHES WERE WWF TITLE MATCH- STONE COLD VS. SHAWN MICHAELS W/IRON MIKE TYSON AS ENFORCER. UNDERTAKER VS. KANE, A DUMPSTER MATCH FOR THE WWF TAG TITLES NEW AGE OUTLAWS(NOA) VS. CACTUS JACK AND CHAINSAW CHARLIE. THE IC TITLE ROCK VS. SHAMROCK. EUROPEAN TITLE OWEN HART VS. HHH. THIS IS THE BEST VIDEO. AND THE KING OF THE RING TOURNAMENT ITSELF. SUMMERSLAM-*****- I THINK THIS WAS THE SECOND BEST EVENT. THE UNDERTAKER VS. STONE COLD FOR THE WWF TITLE, LADDER MATCH FOR THE IC TITLE ROCK VS.HHH, HAIR MATCH X-PAC VS.JJ JEFF JARRET. TAG TITLE NOA VS. MANKIND AND KANE. THIS IS A CLASSIC SURVIVOR SERIES-**** KIND OF LIKE A KING OF THE RING TOURNAMENT FOR THE WWF TITLE. THIS WAS TITLED "THE DEADLY GAMES TOURNAMENT" WITH 16 SUPERSTARS INCLUDING STONE COLD, MANKIND, THE ROCK, UNDERTAKER, KANE, KEN SHAMROCK, BIG BOSSMAN, AND MANY MORE. Classsics All right
the classice 5 of 1998 cinsists of the royal rumble, wrestlemania 14, king of the ring, summerslam, and survivor series. Royal Rumble-**** best matches were the intercontinental title match between the rock and ken shamrock, the wwf title in a casket match undertaker vs. hbk shawn Michaels. and the royal rumble itself. wrestlemania-***** my 2nd favorite wrestlemania. the best matches were rock vs. shamrock, the dumpster match, kane vs. undertaker, and stone cold vs.shawn michaels. king of the ring- **** the only good mathes was the historic hell in the cell match between mankind and undertaker, and kane vs. austin for the wwf title. the tournament was one of the best i saw though. summerslam-***** this is the 2nd biggest event in the wwf and it sure did deliver. good matches were undertaker vs. stone cold for the title and a ladder match betwwen the rock and hhh. as well as a tag title bout and a lions dens match between owen hart and ken shamrock. survivor series-*** all it was was a tournament to decide a new wwf champion which this is were the rock won his 1st wwf title. the was also a womens title bout was well as a tag title bout. these are all classics.
