- Title: The Miami Mediterranean Diet: Lose Weight and Lower Your Risk of Heart Disease with 300 Delicious Recipes
|
Avg Customer Rating:
Product Description: A board-certified cardiologist makes the case for a diet that is good for both heart and figure in this simple yet powerful program based on the Mediterranean way of cooking and eating. The first section details the principles of the Mediterranean approach to food and explains how they affect the body. It presents evidence that including a variety of whole unprocessed foods high in antioxidants and low in saturated and trans fats in a diet is clinically proven to decrease the inflammation that leads to the development and progression of heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and other major diseases. The second section provides a 14-day meal plan based on a way of eating that has been in existence for thousands of years, and is both delicious and easy to prepare. Anyone wanting to lose weight safely and lower the risk of heart disease will be inspired by this food-friendly approach to nutrition and cardiac health. The menus presented are based on fish, olive oil, red wine, and other staples of Mediterranean cuisine and are designed to reverse the debilitating effects of the typical high-fat, pro-inflammatory Western diet. More than 300 tantalizing recipes are provided, including Spanish Paella with Saffron Rice, Tuscan Braised Fennel, and Sweet Italian Rice Pudding. This new, expanded edition includes up-to-date nutritional information, more evidence of the benefits of the Mediterranean diet and lifestyle, and additional delicious recipes.

Buy this book - save your life
Written by an experienced Miami cardiologist, the Miami Mediterranean Diet is an excellent introduction to the lifestyle and recipes of the Mediterranean diet, as filtered through an American lens, which, nevertheless, retains all of the heart-healthy benefits of the original Mediterranean diet.
Far from being just another fad diet, The Mediteranean diet is the only diet clinically proven, for more than four decades now, to reduce the incidence of heart disease, cancer and stroke, and possibly neurodegenerative disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease. Dr. Michael Ozner makes the case for moving away from the pro-inflammatory American diet towards the anti-inflammatory Mediterranean diet in order to prevent atherosclerosis, heart disease and other inflammation-related ailments that are all-too common in the West.
The Miami Mediterranean diet features plenty of low-fat, high-fiber, olive-oil-rich, flavor-packed recipes made with fresh fruits and vegetables, fatty fish, lean dairy, nuts, legumes and whole grains. It will help you lose weight and change your lifestyle for the better, for once and for all. This is a diet that anyone can benefit from, whether you are seeking to lose weight, prevent diabetes, reduce allergy or arthritis symptoms, reverse heart disease, or avoid IBS symptoms. Highly recommended.

Should not be labeled "diet"
This is a great book for a person with any type of heart problems or who wants to lower their risk of heart problems. It is not really geared to losing weight, but to being healthier. It was recommended by my husband's doctor and is great for heart disease.
