5 stars DeGrassi's unique technique
Alex DeGrassi is one of my favorite guitarists. His imagination is fertile and his technique is incredible. He loves to experiment with tunings, but his compositions don't just sound like somebody doodling around with a new tuning as those of many fingerstyle artists. Instead he uses these alternate tunings as inspiration to make a new musical statement. My favorite piece of his is Western, which is broken down and explained in this video. With the accompanying tablature I now feel that this song is playable, complicated though it may be.

Homespun has produced an excellent instructional video here. Great audio and video and good instruction from the artist. My only disappointment is that the other two pieces wouldn't have been my choices for this video. I would rather have had him teach McCormick and Overland, but nobody asked my opinion. But the tunes that were chosen do give you an insight into DeGrassi's approach to playing and composing for the guitar. If you can play fingerstyle guitar you can follow Alex's instruction. The only problem now is finding enough time to practice your butt off so you can play these tunes.
