Product Description: This fizzy musical was a Broadway smash in 1962, and boy, is it a product of its era. Executive washrooms, gray-flannel-suit businessmen, hip-swinging secretaries--they're all preserved in the movie's brightly colored amber. J. Pierpont Finch (Robert Morse) is the window washer who climbs the corporate ladder in a few days, guided by a how-to book. The Frank Loesser songs are great fun, the Bob Fosse dances are very clever and mod, and the gaudy set design may have given Andy Warhol a few ideas. The jack-in-the-box performance of the elfin Robert Morse doesn't seem toned down from his Tony-winning stage turn; think Mickey Rooney doing Jerry Lewis. Still, Morse is a unique presence, and his mad little solo dance down a real Manhattan street is an interlude of sublime daffiness. Grand old crooner Rudy Vallee shines as the president of Worldwide Wicket, barking his beloved alma mater's fight song: "Groundhog! Groundhog!" --Robert Horton

No Coffee Break
Eliminating "Coffee Break" (and its choreography) was a huge disappointment within what I otherwise thought was quite good and peppy for a film version.

A superb movie and superb DVD transfer. I was so pleased to be able to pick up the original. I believe this film was remade a few years ago, in which case you can normally never again get the superior original version. Very pleased to get this. If you have a sense of humour, you will love this film!

A classic view of the office world of old.
A classic romp through the earlier years when the men reigned supreme in the office and the women were no more than the secretaries and typists. The leading man buys a book on how to climb the corporate ladder and finds himself at the top in a very short time. The music is a nostalgic experience and although the first time I saw this movie I was bored, as an older person I enjoyed this movie very much.

If you love musicals...
If you love musicals then you must include this one in your collection. Bright, vibrant costumes and sets, sparkling music and lyrics and some brilliantly original choreography make this seldom-seen musical a true classic.
