Product Description: The antique game is more fun when Lovejoy makes up his own rules, and this four-tape set finds the irascible antique hunter and scam artist up to his neck in trouble as usual--just the way he likes it. "Friends in High Places" (the first episode of the third season) catches Lovejoy six months after his biggest score ever, already broke and aching to get back in action, and sure enough he leaps into a plot involving a possibly invaluable ancient Incan gold ring that certain parties want so desperately that they kidnap Lovejoy's own friends as a bargaining chip. "Love Knots" sends Lovejoy and his crew researching Muslim carpets after a bidding war leads to the theft of a seemingly worthless Berber rug. A mysterious Scottish sect obsessed with a commemorative sword sets the stage for "Scotch on the Rocks," a particularly wry episode guest starring Edward Hardwicke as a kilt-garbed gentleman with a penchant for strange dinner rituals. Finally, "The Ring" delivers the Lovejoy we've come to fear and love when he stages an "only slightly illegal" scheme at an auction and, in desperation, involves his gal pal Lady Jane Feldsham without clueing her in to the sting. Ian McShane brings the charming rascal to life with a twinkle in his eye and infrequent asides to the audience, as if we were willing coconspirators. I can't imagine a con man I'd rather be working with. --Sean Axmaker

Some really great British Entertainment!
I do not know how to describe this show is it a comedy or an adventure or a drama? None the less I can highly recommend this series for those who like some really good light entertainment with an off beat but brillant cast!

What a waste!
Lovejoy mysteries are the best in cinematography, writing, acting - Where are the other 75 episodes of Lovejoy? Probably sitting in some lawyer's safe. We are lucky to even have the four A&E tapes and we have even asked about him in East Anglia, where many Brits still remember the wonderful hour-long episodes. If only someone could put all of the episodes on tape! We miss him terribly!

Wit, charm, style and intelligence (plus some derring do)
First, I really like the reviews I have read about this box set. They seem to come from the sort of people I always knew loved Lovejoy -- intelligent and fun and able to spell correctly. I, too, mourn the passing of Lovejoy from my Monday nights. I don't think there has ever been a show with so many delicate components all mixed together so well. -- This line-up includes the original cast, Lovejoy, Tinker, Eric and Lady Felsham (the later cast was great, too, with Charlotte Cavendish supplying much-needed romance to Lovejoy's life), and they are so well suited to one another and play with obvious affection that it makes this show that much more fun to watch. Honestly, I used to watch the show just for the beautiful country locations, which are used to enormous effect. If this set is still available, do yourself a favor and buy it and bask in one of the most exciting and charming shows England ever produced.
