Product Description: The postwar vogue for documentary-style realism, prompted by The March of Time and the critical success of Roberto Rossellini's Open City, cross bred with film noir to create a compelling strain of crime films; this is one of the most low-key and credible, based on the true story of a Chicago reporter (James Stewart) who became convinced of the innocence of a death-row inmate (Richard Conte). Director Henry Hathaway (whose Kiss of Death started the trend) stages the action on the actual Chicago locations, providing a fascinating documentary record of an underfilmed metropolis (the convict's mother is a washerwoman at the Wrigley Building), and leads his cast to appropriately restrained, naturalistic performances. Stewart is just beginning to explore his newfound, postwar maturity here, and there's an undercurrent of obsessiveness in his performance that anticipates the haunted figures he would soon be playing for Anthony Mann and Alfred Hitchcock. --Dave Kehr

Call Northside 777
Classic Film Noir - James Stewart is at his best tracking down the evidence in solving this case. Hope You enjoy it as much as I did.

Classic noir
One of the best film noir available. Suspensful and moves at a great pace. This is a must see film for anyone who is a Jimmy Stewart fan. He really does an excellent job in the role of the crusading reporter. I would highly recommend this film to everyone.

A classic not to be forgotten
Call Northside 777 is a true classic. It is Jimmy Stewart at his all-time best. It was so enjoyable to find this movie was still in existence. The cast is remarkable and the storyline is great. Too bad they don't make movies like this any more. Very little violence. No x-rated language. Just plain good old storytelling. We need to revive more movies like this one.

Call Northside 777 film review
Upon viewing Call Northside 777 (Fox Film Noir), starring James Stewart, I was quite interested in the scenes filmed in Chicago, circa 1948. My grandparents' building (since torn down in the 60's) was included in the film. Quite a mystery presented itself, with James Stewart's character digging into what really occurred in the murder of the police officer in the early thirties.
