Product Description: Based on Thomas Hardy's classic novel, Far from the Madding Crowd is a turbulent tale of passion and destruction set in the 19th century. Bathsheba Everdene (Paloma Baeza), a beautiful and proud woman with a fiercely independent spirit, ensnares--and almost destroys--three men. She rejects the proposal of the loyal and dependable Gavriel Oak (Nathaniel Parker), who takes a job on her farm because of an unfortunate twist of fate. He can only stand by and watch as Bathsheba mischievously flirts with her neighbor, Mr. Boldwood (Nigel Terry), unleashing a passionate obsession that burns deep within the reserved Gabriel. However, both men are eclipsed by the arrival of the dashing, womanizing soldier, Frank Troy (Jonathan Firth). Despite being in love with another woman, he sees a challenge in Bathsheba and sets out to win her. Troy manages to tame the wild young woman, but their marriage is instantly doomed, and a dramatic chain of events are set in motion.

Still Waiting!!!!!!
Far From the Madding Crowd: Masterpiece Theatre Still waiting for a DVD version that can be viewed here in the U.S. Will it ever come to pass? I think there is a big fan base here who would love to have this on DVD. PLEASE!!!!!

Make a DVD for USA viewers please!!
I have this on VHS, but no longer have a working VHS player. Please put this on DVD for USA region, as this is an excellent verion.
|
Unmanly, yes, but Yanks like it too...
So I know the film is British, with mostly British actors, based on a book by a British author, but this completely non-British-descended American loves the movie, as well. Contrary to popular opinion, many Americans don't require guns and/or booty as a prerequisite for their cinematic choices and have a vast appreciation in particular for the theatrical talents of our cousins across the Big Pond.
Come on, Powers That Be: Let the Yanks in the Luv Club, please...there's a good chap (chaps? chapettes? chapenistas?). Our VHSs are growing as grey as Mr. Boldwood.

Want the dvd
So many of my VHS British videos are beginning to show wear especially in the sound. For that reason, I do not wish to purchase the vhs of this wonderful movie. I will wait for the dvd or rely on my taped Masterpiece Theatre version.I saw the original Christie/Bates movie when it came out in the theater and have the tape also, but this version is much better. I look forward to the dvd.
