Product Description: The original Voltron was a combination of two drawn Japanese series cut together for U.S. syndication; during the mid '80s, it helped to spark the fad for transforming/combining robot toys. "Third Dimension" is a recent reworking done in computer animation and motion capture. "Escape from Bastille-12" begins a few years after the first series ended. The heroes are the pilots of the five lion-ships that can fuse to form the gargantuan warrior robot, Voltron: Keith (Black Lion), Allura (Blue Lion), Hunk (Yellow Lion), Pidge (Green Lion), Lance (Red Lion). The evil half-cyborg Lotor (son of the previous villain, Zarkon, who is now a good guy) escapes from prison. He immediately begins completing the "Doom Weapons" and resumes his attacks on galactic civilization. Of course, it falls to the Voltron Force to stop him. The redoubtable quintet must fight not only Lotor's henchmen, but also the interference of Amalgamus, a dithering, C3PO-style robot-boss, who wants to keep the heroes on a tight leash. Japanese robot toys are enjoying a renewed popularity in the U.S., and the new Voltron recalls He-Man and other product-generated shows of the '80s that offered minimal story lines and lots of reused footage of the toys in action. Not rated: suitable for ages 7 and up for violence, mostly robots and space ships attacking each other. --Charles Solomon

5 stars Yay! for home video
I first saw the Voltron third dimesion series right as it was finishing up it's run on my local area network. I spent years trying to find the video release of this cool series and now it's here. Though I am older and supoosedly wiser then I was when this series first aired, it is still my guilty pleasure to curl up on my couch and watch this tape over again. I recommend it all who enjoy not only like voltron but just like good well-thought out short TV series. It's a classic I enjoy and I'm sure others will to.

4 stars Pretty cool, especially with Tim Curry!
It's a real treat for a child of the '80s (like me) to see one of their old favorites resurrected, especially in CGI. The best part (IMHO) was Tim Curry as the voice of Prince Lotor; kick-ass, yo.
