Drumming Novice turned Pro
When I first started playing the drums on Rock Band, I had NO prior drumming experience. This showed in how badly I tore up my first drum set because of how hard I was hitting the pads. I had to buy another set because my yellow pad quit working all together.
The reason I went with amazon.com was the huge difference in price, but I was not disappointed at all! The drum set I received was brand new and in a Rock Band box and was of much better quality than the original I had purchased from the video game retailer I bought it from. In fact, I had a friend who also tore up his original set, but since he did it in record time, he was able to return the drums for replacement. The drums that EA sent back were made differently and of much better quality than the originals. The set I got from Amazon was put together the exact same way.
I am extremely pleased with this game and most importantly these sturdier drums.

Outstanding
First off I cannot recommend picking up the official Rock Band drum pads enough for these. The lack of clack (see what I did there) makes a huge difference. The drums them selves are high quality and a lot of fun to play. If you're holding out for Guitar Hero 4 STOP! Pick up Rock Band now and see how rhythm games are done right!

Fairly fun to play, high price.
I got this because I already had a guitar from Guitar Hero 3 and the Rock Band disc, and since I was having so much fun with the Rock Band game I thought I would get the drums too. When I bought this it was on sale for $50, I would only recommend buying this if you can find a deal such as this. Just to be able to play the drums on rock band is not worth $70-80. As for playing the drums itself, its pretty fun but it gets old fast, and you cant really play for too long at once because your arms might get a little tired or your leg can get tired from hitting the bass pedal too much. Overall its a fairly fun product but not really worth the money.
